I’ve told you all previously how it’s super hard for me to find baked shadows that work for me. Most just aren’t as pigmented or smooth as I want them to be, and I find them a pain to work with. Before now, BH Cosmetics was the only brand that I really trusted to make baked shadows that were worth wearing. Well, I just found three palettes that might give them a run for their money…
The Hard Candy Super Mod Eye Shadow Spheres are new palettes hitting Walmart shelves that each contain 8 full baked shadows and two duos. While they are stiff in the pan as with most baked shadows, they’re actually easy to pick up on a brush and most of the shades have good color pay off. Some of the shades performed better than others, but these are still up there as one of my favorite drugstore baked formulas.
The three palettes available are (L-R above) My Bright Life, Nudes n’ Roses, and Light n’ Night. For the most part, the finish is satin with the exception of the blacks which are matte. Two shades in both My Bright Life and Light n’ Night have chunky glitter, and I find those to be harder to pick up and apply. The rest are smooth, apply evenly and can build up to intense pigmentation.
My Bright Life
My Bright Life is the most colorful palette of the three, with cool greens and blues and pops of coppers and yellows. The matte black is helpful to darken up shades you want to use in the crease, since the rest fall on the light and medium tone spectrum. I was really surprised at how well the light colors show up!
Light n’ Night
Light n’ Night is supposed to be the cool, smoky palette of the three, but the deep shades fell flat for me. The blues and grays were pretty, and the light shades are super pigmented, but the purples could have been so much better. Incidentally, these were the shades with the chunky glitter I mentioned earlier.
Nudes n’ Roses
Nudes n’ Roses was my absolute favorite of the three. Not only does it have beautiful rose golds and burgundy shades which are my favorite for fall, but the pigmentation was the best and the shades’ performance were consistent across the board. The black was also richer than the one in My Bright Life. Above is a look I’ve been wearing constantly using this palette.
Even though a few of the shades fell flat, these are still the best drugstore baked eyeshadows that I’ve tried. Nudes n’ Roses is definitely the must-have of the group and one that I’ll be reaching for constantly this season.
The Hard Candy Super Mod Eye Shadow Spheres cost $8 and are available at Walmart.
