REVIEW: Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara

Alright, so I know I’ve featured this mascara in a few tutorials and even my March favorites, but I never got to give you an in-depth review. Plus, I haven’t done a mascara review in like… forever. Since this is my new holy grail drugstore mascara, I figured I owed it to you to give you the full scoop.

REVIEW: Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara

The Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara is one of the latest additions to the Scandaleyes family, claiming to give you that wide-eyed, bold lash look from the sixties (the era when nobody left the house without falsies on). It currently comes in four variations: Black, Extreme Black, Carbon Black, and Waterproof Black. To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what the differences are between the three blacks are because they all look the same to me! Regardless, I’ve been wearing Extreme Black.

The first thing you’ll notice is the hourglass brush, which I love. This shape makes it so easy to grab all the lashes, even the ones in the corner, in just one stroke. It is on the large side though, so you have to be mindful not to hit your eyelid during an upwards stroke. There’s no tinkering needed with this wand. The dense brush does wonders to separate each lash and coat it with the mascara while shaping your eyelashes into that fanned out look.

REVIEW: Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara

The formula has a gel-like consistency. It applies in thin layers but isn’t wet by any means. It easily builds up to provide a really bold lash look, which is how I like to wear it on a daily basis. You get a good amount of volume, and a lot of length. The best part: it doesn’t clump at all, which helps make your lashes look naturally full and luscious.

The Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara will run you about $5-$6. I’ve tested this against more expensive mascaras from bareMinerals and Lorac, and it performed just as well— if not better— at a fraction of the cost! It’s definitely my new go-to mascara. Rimmel is kicking major drugstore butt with these new releases, aren’t they?

What was the last drugstore mascara you tried and loved?

  1. I think this mascara is pretty cool. The wand scared me at first, though.

  2. On my wishlist! I have a coupon for it, just waiting for a great sale to combine with my coupon.

  3. I stopped being interested in Rimmel wen I realized they had no interest on making shades for all women of color. The mascara looks nice though.

  4. I haven’t tried this yet but it looks amazing on your lashes. I don’t like Bareminerals and Lorac mascara, they smudged big time on me.

  5. I actually have one of these that I haven’t opened yet – guess it should be next in the queue!

  6. I picked this up in waterproof thanks to all you lovelies here… and let me just say – I can’t wait to do the review… I am loving loving it. I have to build it up a bit because I have super short small lashes, but if I can see my lashes, we have a happy person 😉

  7. Everyone writing about this mascara inspired me to go get it! I’ve only worn it once, but it’s very nice! That pic is pretty cool – it looks like you have blue eyelashes, too!

    1. LOL I think that’s because I was clumsy in applying my blue eyeliner and it got onto my lashes 😛

  8. Wow! I think I have this is my drugstore stash – I think I might have to go get it! Very nice results!!

  9. Holy lashes! Need to get myself some. The last drugstore mascara I bought was from NYC but am thinking it is time to get Rimmel

    1. I do love myself some NYC, but this knocks all the other drugstore mascaras I’ve tried out of the park!

  10. Okay this is added on my list of needs. I am loving the way that brush looks and Damm girl you got great lashes with it. Great post!!

  11. I love the look of that brush! I wish more companies made dense brushes. Everyone makes those sparse plastic brushes that leave my lashes in spikes. :/

    1. I know what you mean!!! My thick lashes NEED dense brushes otherwise I end up with like 5 huge lashes!
