Although many of us are still waiting for the summer sun to take its place in the sky, summer is only three days away for me! The school semester will be over, and I can take three months to relax and play with makeup (besides going to work, of course).
I may have jumped on the neutral train for winter and spring, but my goal is to incorporate as much color as I can into this season’s makeup looks. That’s why I was so excited to discover my three new staple summer lip colors from the Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids collection.
Fuchsia Flash is a balanced almost-neon hot pink that will compliment a range of skin tones. It applies completely opaque in just two layers. I found that it left a very subtle stain on my lips which helped the color last longer.
Pink Pop is a medium pink with a lavender undertone, a similar— but deeper— shade to my OCC Lip Tar in Digitalis. This was the only shade out of the three that I noticed contains very tiny shimmer particles, but they are not apparent at all when worn on the lips. Pink Pop can be built up to near full opacity, but a normal application will still let the natural color of your lips shine through a bit. Just because this is a lighter shade, I suggest exfoliating before application so you don’t highlight any dry patches.
Electric Orange surprised me the most; I didn’t expect to love wearing it as much as I do. Don’t be fooled by its intimidating brightness; it retains the same slight translucency as Pink Pop that makes it look a lot more wearable once applied to the lips. Regardless, you’ll still be making a statement with this shade. I like wearing it with nothing but mascara on the eyes… it speaks for itself! You can also dab it on gently to get a subtle coral shade.
The Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids are very creamy and offer a lovely glossy finish. The pigmentation is really what has me head over heels for these lipsticks— and the color lasts about five to six hours, even through eating. When it does start to wear off, it fades evenly (Read: no crazy looking lip outline). On top of the amazing color payoff, the formula is actually hydrating and comfortable to wear! I’m pretty sure at one point, I forgot I was even wearing lipstick.
Maybelline has really upped their lipstick game with this collection, and these will hands down be among my most-reached-for products for summer! At about $5.99, these dance circles around some of my high end lipsticks. What a great find!
