I don’t feel like bullet lipsticks get enough attention these days—it’s all about liquid lipsticks recently! I think we’re ready for a step back to the traditional, though, because we’re getting a ton of new classics from drugstore brands. One of the latest releases to pay attention to: the new Revlon Super Lustrous The Luscious Mattes Lipstick.

24 shades debut with this new version of the iconic lipstick, which is supposed to deliver a comfortable matte finish with a formula infused with Agave, Mooring Oil and Cupuacu Butter. I’ve got a handful of them to share with you, plus my thoughts on how they wear and feel throughout the day.

First of all, these lipstick seriously look high end with the new packaging. They have a velvet matte tube that’s soft to the touch, all black with gold trim. As much as I prioritize a product’s performance, I think packaging can say a lot about a product and this says luxe to me!

Let’s get in to these gorgeous shades!

Row 1: Untold Stories / Candy Addict
Row 2: Hot Chocolate / Moonlight
Row 3: On Fire / Insane
Row 4: Heartbreaker / Rhythm & Blues
Row 5: Fire & Ice / Black Cherry

There’s no denying that these lipsticks are incredibly pigmented. They apply so smoothly with a balmy feel that adds high impact color in one swipe. They don’t tug on the lips at all, but it’s important to note that like many matte lipsticks, pigment will catch on dry patches of skin, making them very obvious. This is more noticeable with the darker shades in particular. I highly suggest both exfoliating and moisturizing prior to application for the smooth finish they promise.

While these are supposed to feel moisturizing, I think the extent to which they’re comfortable differs between shades. Most of them feel like a light balm— which is great— but a couple feel more dry than the rest. Particularly Insane and Untold Stories, which also have a flatter appearance than the others which retain a subtle sheen. Just make sure you do your due diligence, as I can guarantee you won’t like them if you apply them over dry lips. Across the board, they’re incredibly lightweight and I often forget I have anything on at all.

I was pretty happy with how these stayed put through talking, drinking and eating. While they’re not completely transfer-proof or smudge-proof, I was still left with a considerable amount of color on the lips by the end of the day (see above). After about 5-6 hours, I did notice slight feathering at the edges of my lips, but only when up really close. You’ll probably need a quick touch-up after lunch if you want to keep that full coverage color look from morning to night. Also considering that the darker shades leave a stain behind, I felt like the fading was even and gradual.

When it comes to a traditional bullet lipstick, the Revlon Super Lustrous The Luscious Mattes are definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for high impact color with comfortable all-day wear. If you don’t mind lip prep, then these will be a gem in your collection.
