Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection

As I’ve mentioned before, my favorite beauty trends come in to play during the season of fall. Two in particular I’m excited to see back in action are jewel tones and matte nails. The Zoya Matte Velvet collection bring both of these loves together, and I’m swooning for these shades! The colors are rich, easy to apply, and are a quick way to stay in style. The collection was first released as limited edition in 2009, but is back with a vengeance for those of you who need a second dose, or didn’t get to try them when they were brand new.

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection- HarlowHarlow is a cool fuchsia that leans purple with metallic shimmer.

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection- SavitaSavita is a rich, royal purple with red and gold shimmer.

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection- VeruschkaVeruschka is one of my favorites in the collection; an emerald green with metallic shimmer.

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection- PoshPosh is my other top pick; a beautiful cool toned red with metallic red shimmer. This would be great to pair with Veruschka for Christmas nails, don’t you think?

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection- LoredanaLoredana is a cool gray with a ton of silver shimmer.

Review & Swatches: Zoya Matte Velvet Collection- DovimaDovima is a slate black with silver shimmer.

As the name of the collection suggests, these polishes aren’t flat or dull. Because they are packed with shimmer, the finish ends up being on the satin matte, or “velvet” side. Loredana and Harlow are the two that look the most shimmery. They all dry extremely fast, which is another thing I love about matte polishes. Almost all of these shades show up completely opaque with just one coat, with the exception of Loredana and Dovima. Even still, I usually top them all off with a second coat for the richest color and most even application.

Like most other matte polishes, these will accentuate any imperfections on the nail bed– ie. ridges, chips, or cracks if you have them. Although they are meant to be applied over a bare nail, I experienced no problems using a base coat underneath. However, using a top coat will cover up the beautiful finish.

Jewel tones are some of my favorite to wear for fall and winter since they are rich and festive, and the velvet matte finish is so chic. I’m glad Zoya brought these shades back for a second run!

You can purchase each shade of the Zoya Matte Velvet collection for $9 on their website.

  1. A few of these shades remind me of he Wet n Wild Fall collection matte MegaLast polishes. Do you have those to do a comparison?

    1. I don’t have those! I’ll have to pop over to Rite Aid and see if there are any left. I love WnW polishes!
