e.l.f. SRSLY Satin Lipsticks are a $3 Gamble

While e.l.f. cosmetics has definitely elevated their products over the past few years, they are still staying true to their budget friendly mission, and their newest best selling lipstick is only $3!

e.l.f. SRSLY Satin Lipsticks Review & Swatches | New Drugstore Lipstck | Slashed Beauty

The e.l.f. Srsly Satin Lipsticks come in ten rich colors and are supposed to give intense color payoff (they say one-swipe pigmentation) with smooth feel and satin finish. The transparent lipstick tube gives me major Milk Makeup vibes, and makes it easy to grab the shade you’re looking for among your collection.

I have four of the shades in the collection.

e.l.f. SRSLY Satin Lipsticks Swatches | Cocoa, Cider, Taffy, Persimmon | Slashed Beauty

Cocoa: Rich deep brown with heavy red undertones. It looks burgundy in some lighting.
Cider: Terracotta orangey brown
Taffy: Medium rouge pink that’s versatile enough for a glam or neutral look.
Persimmon: Bright orange

My first thought when trying these back to back was that the texture was… inconsistent. I feel that Taffy and Cider really embody the satin finish the line boasts. They’re creamy when swiped on, with a super smooth and even finish that’s extremely comfortable to wear. On the other hand, Cocoa is slightly more glossy, which I think you can see in the swatches above. It has a slicker consistency that makes it a little less long-wearing, as well. Persimmon is a major outlier from the other three shades I own— this one feels a lot more stiff, tugs a bit when applying, and has more of a matte look and feel. It’s harder to layer, doesn’t really stick to the inner portion of the lip. Exfoliation goes a long way with this shade, the others don’t have a problem gliding over a little bit of texture.

From a quick glance at the reviews on the brand’s website, it seems like other people have experienced inconsistencies from shade to shade as well.

With that said, I also think Cider and Taffy are the best wearing throughout the day. While none of these are transfer-proof, these shades wear well for several hours and fade more evenly than the other two. You will definitely want to touch up after eating regardless of the shade, I’ve noticed.

For $3, The SRSLY Satin Lipsticks are definitely worth checking out… in hopes that you’ll get the formula as advertised. It’s sort of a $3 gamble, as I haven’t tried the other six shades to tell you if there’s more consistency than the 50/50 experience I had. But, the two shades I have that deliver on all the promises are incredibly pleasant to wear, gorgeous colors and definitely outperform the price tag.

  1. I have deep skin with neutral to cool undertones. Which ones would you recommend? It’s so hard to find lip colors I actually like on, you know?

    1. Ooh I think you could work with Nectar, Cider, Taffy, Sugarplum, or even Raspberry! If you google “elf srsly satin lipstick” there’s a shade viewer on the side of google desktop that actually shows you what shades look like on different skin tones!

  2. I could tell from the swatches that Taffy and Cider are the best of the bunch. Love the transparent packaging, it’s very much “in” right now!

  3. I definitely like that cider shade but I think I already have two other if not three lipsticks that look the same. I keep wanting to buy perfect nude shades but then go towards that brick/ terracotta shade hahahha
