Physicians Formula The Healthy Lip Liquid Lipsticks Review

This post has been sponsored by Physicians Formula. All opinions are my own.

I’ve been sharing sneak peeks of these babies here and there on social media… and now I’m finally allowed to let the cat out of the bag! Physicians Formula is back at it again with another launch that I’m stoked about. Now, now, hear me out— YES this is another liquid lipstick launch but it’s still iconic for the brand!

The Healthy Lip Velvet Liquid Lipsticks have just dropped with a whopping 13 shades. Ranging from pale nudes to deep berries, there’s something for everyone and every look. The creamy formula is infused with skin-loving ingredients that keep your lips comfortable and hydrated through wear. Avocado Oil, Vitamins A & E, Hyaluronic Acid, anti-aging peptides and a blend of treatment oils make this the magic lipstick that is cushy and moisturizing… yet still delivers a soft matte finish.

The texture of The Healthy Lip is creamy yet lightweight. You can absolutely layer without it feeling too thick, but I don’t think you’ll really have to. The creaminess helps blur the lip lines, and never settles into or accentuates them which is so important for a matte finish. These shades are really pigmented, and most go on evenly on the first swipe. They don’t take too long to dry down, leaving you with a finish that’s just a bit more dimensional than a flat out matte.

I have been particularly digging the applicator. It comes to a tapered point, which makes it easy to line your lips without needing any extra products. I’ve been on a kick with overdrawing my lips lately, and playing with different lip shapes, so the tip helps keep my lines defined. In the center, there’s a hollow reservoir that holds extra product so you can cover your lips in fewer dips. It also helps keep application even as it deposits the perfect amount.

Let’s take a look at the shades:

1. Red-storative Effects: dark red with brown undertones.
2. Raisin Immunity: purple-leaning mauve
3. Nut-ritious: gorgeous cool brown
4. Vitamin Beet: soft fucshia
5. Berry Healthy: faded berry
6. Noir-ishing Plum: deep and bold oxblood
7. Bare With Me: peachy nude
8. Coral Minerals: light coral
9. Tu-Lip Treatment: orange-y pink
10. Dose of Rose: medium rosy pink
11. All-Natural Nude: pinky beige
12. Magentle Formula: hot pink
13. Fight Free Red-icals: classic red

The only shade that really gave me problems was the deepest one— Noir-ishing Plum— which went on a bit patchy for me. Literally all the rest layered evenly and gave me opaque color with no effort. The wear time was also pretty impressive… I didn’t get any transferring throughout the day and the color payoff lasted hours. Oil does break down the formula pretty easily though, so I had to retouch after eating. But re-application was easy and blended into the original layer seamlessly. Also, the bolder shades did stain pretty well, which would make any fading much less noticeable.

The Healthy Lip Velvet Liquid Lipsticks will be appearing in stores at CVS, Ulta Beauty, Rite Aid and Walgreens throughout the month. EDIT: These are now available on the brand’s website!

Which shades are your favorite?

  1. Tried to find in all my local stores can’t find. I like to see the colors in person, so I’m not comfortable buying online…Do you know when drug stores or Ulta will be carrying them? Thanks

    1. They’re popping up in CVS throughout the month… check out the end caps where the new releases are, and not necessarily the Physicians Formula section of the drugstore!

  2. Hi Miranda! Berry Healthy, Dose of Rose, and Fight Free Red-icals are my favorites. I’m a huge fan of the Physicians Formula brand. Thank you for sharing and Happy Holidays!

  3. I got Nut-tritious from my local CVS and love it! Great color & pigmentation, not too sticky or dry (but still long lasting). It seriously matches up favorably to more expensive brands I tried and is great value. However I can’t wait until they’re available online because the availability in store is a bit hit or miss (wanted to try Raisin Immunity too but didn’t have it there) Thanks for the review and swatches and for letting us know when it’s live on their website!

    1. Awesome, I’m so glad you were able to find them in stores! Nut-tritious is one of my faves so I’m glad that was the one you picked up! The rest should be live next week and I’ll update this post with the link when they are!!

      1. Hooray, so glad they’re available online now too! I’m glad I also got a chance to try Raisin Immunity (which they just don’t sell in my local CVS for some reason). I also love that one and, in fact, can’t decide which one I like better, Nut-ricious or Raisin Immunity. Luckily at these prices, I didn’t have to decide between them and could get both. 🙂 They’re showing that quality doesn’t have to come with a huge price tag!

  4. Pretty cool colors shades I like this 3- Nut-ritious: gorgeous cool brown, any best place where can I buy this lipstick?

  5. I picked my #11 & #3 at Harmons! Coupons were used as always 🙂 It’s so funny how colors can look so different on everyone! #11 looks so pinky pale on you, but when I use it with a brown lip liner (ELF Praline Matte Lip) I get Jeffree Star Celebrity vibes! I swear. & we are very close in skin tone! For first time use I find the formula to be very light, slightly watery (a bit like the Milani liquid lipsticks, which made me nervous about the layering ability), but totally agree on the opaque color! I know you find layering after eating easy and seamless, but the formula for me feels like it would start to cake a bit in the inner lips. I’ll have to test that out! Great Swatches & Post!

    1. Thanks Carla! Ooooh, I have praline from e.l.f. so I’ll have to give layering the two a try. Thanks for the tip!!

  6. I really love all of the color options! I think I could wear most of them too. I’m really curious to see how the texture would feel to me.

  7. Nice review of the healthy lip liquid lipsticks. They are really nice. The packaging is pretty and the colors are lovely. There’s a LOT of nudes. They are a little sticky until they dry completely but the color doesn’t smudge. Two of the applicator tips are bent but at least they aren’t broken.

    1. Try applying a little less if you’re feeling stickiness! And yes they bend easily I think to make application easier on other people, but I’ve been able to bend them back into place! Thanks for commenting!

  8. I think number 1 is my fave for Fall. These are gorgeous and they all look fabulous on you!! Not dry at all!

  9. Oooooo…. I LOVE the Berry Healthy! Definitely looking for this the next time I am at the store. 🙂

  10. It’s great to see more and more soft-matte liquid lipsticks coming out! Berry Healthy and Dose of Rose are right up my alley!

  11. I love all of the colors! That pale pink is beautiful, and Red-storative Effects & Vitamin Beet are my favorite. I love that they’re mattes.

  12. I honestly love every single one of these colors! They look moisturizing and I’m happy to hear that they don’t feel too thick on the lips either.
