Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint Review

Happy National Lipstick Day! It’s probably my favorite of national “holidays”, considering lipstick is one of my favorite makeup items! So I thought I would save this review for the occasion, since I’ve been wearing these liquid lipsticks religiously for the past two weeks.

The Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints are the brand’s latest liquid lipsticks that are frankly a home run for me. These extremely pigmented and cushy lipsticks are a fantastic addition to the drugstore scene, and totally rival similar high end products. There are currently eight shades in the collection right now, and I have half of them to show you here.

The Color Jolts come in a small tube that holds .21 fl oz and have a soft “flocked” tip applicator. I like this type of applicator, which is also found on the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks (more on them later), because you don’t have to juggle an extra wand as you can apply straight to your lips like a normal lipstick.

Let’s take a look at the shades I currently have in my collection:

Never Bare

This light pink is a neutral that pops— on lighter skin tones, you can pull it off as a pinky nude. On my medium skin tone, it packs a little more punch in contrast.

Stripped Down

My most-used shade of the four I own, this is the perfect every day mauve that matches pretty much any look.

Fight Me Fuchsia

A beautiful electric fuchsia, this shade makes a statement and will add drama in a flash.

Talk Back Red

This is a super wearable red with a neutral undertone, so you can wear it without fear of looking too over the top.

This formula is extremely creamy and comfortable on the lips. They stay cushy throughout the day and maintain a sheen throughout the day. You hardly need a little dollop out of the tube to cover your lips in opaque color, and the darker shades will leave behind a slight stain. While you will need to reapply these after eating anything slightly greasy, they have a great lasting power of at least 6-7 hours before fading.

Now, these reminded me so much of the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks, I knew I had to go into my lipstick drawer and play dupe detective. I fished out some similar shades to see how they compared.

Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints vs Too Faced Melted Lipsticks. See how the affordable Maybelline lipsticks hold up! | Slashed Beauty

Above, you’ll see (going from top to bottom):

  • Maybelline Color Jolts in Stripped Down vs. Too Faced Melted Chihuaha
  • Maybelline Talk Back Red vs. Too Faced Melted Strawberry
  • Maybelline Never Bare vs. Too Faced Melted Frosting

I think the one true dupe pair was Talk Back Red and Melted Strawberry. You can see that Stripped Down could probably pass as a dupe for Melted Chihuahua, but has a slightly more pink undertone. Obviously, you’re paying about half for the Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints ($9.99), but you’re also getting half the product that comes in the Melted Liquid Lipsticks ($21). I think the Melteds are slightly thicker in consistency, and have slightly longer staying power, but that’s where the differences end. These are just so similar that I could absolutely wear them interchangeably when wanting the same results.

You can find the Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints in drugstores or at Ulta Beauty for $9.99.

What’s your take on the comparison between the Color Jolts and Melteds?
