Holiday Hair Tutorial: Easy & Elegant Braided Updo

My calendar is filling up quickly as the holidays approach! I am completing my finals in school during the next couple weeks, which leaves me with little time to plan out extravagant holiday looks. Last Monday, I showed you my go-to holiday party makeup that I’ve been wearing pretty frequently this season. Today, I’ve got a heavily requested tutorial to show you how to create this elegant braided updo that is quick and easy.

If you already know how to french braid, this hairstyle will be a cinch. If you don’t, I explain it briefly in the tutorial below. Watch for the step-by-step, and for details about the giveaway!

This style takes all of about five minutes to complete and I always get compliments when I wear it. It’s been one of my favorite ways to wear my hair since I cut it to a medium length (which seriously limited the number of hairdos I can pull off).

  1. A mi me gusta llevar un chongo es mucho mas fácil de llevar y asi evitó estar al pendiente de siempre retirar el cabello de ni rostro muy bonito peinado gracias por el sorteo

  2. I wear my hair a little fancier during the holidays when visiting friends and family. I use my clipless curling iron to get loose spirals throughout my hair. I have long hair, so it looks feminine and bouncy but not overdone.

    1. That’s one of my favorite looks for events, too! I used to do it more when my hair was longer since it would look super “done” 🙂

  3. Your hair is perfect! That looks so stinkin’ cute. I’ve loved just twisting my hair and wrapping a ponytail holder around it after shampoo days…it looks sleek and elegant up, and it makes great curls when I take it out!

  4. I love your hair! Mine’s too short for that updo right now, but in future years, I will definitely want to try it!

  5. I love doing a messy bun but then poofing the top up, it ends up looking very fifties pin-up! Takes about two minutes, too, which is always a good option for me.

      1. I know, lol! I saw a post on it, you flip hair over and start it from the nape of your neck. I like doing it loose and making a little messy bun on top with little flower clips but now I’ve seen it done a ton of ways (:

  6. I think I might actually be able to make my hair do this look! I can never get it to say in any kind of updo, but if I can put massive amounts of bobby pins in, it might just work!

  7. I wish I had half the hair you did! 🙁 I have baby fine, thin hair and it’s sometimes impossible to do updos, but I’m gonna try this!

  8. omg this looks SO GOOD!!!! IDK how you do it, girl… I don’t have half your hair and I’m a hot mess lol

  9. I have naturally curly hair so it takes a lot of product and work to straighten it. Of course that’s the way I like it the best! I save straightening for special occasions. But i can’t wait to try this look. So simple but looks so elegant.

    1. I also have naturally curly (and THICK) hair. I do suggest investing in some high quality tools like a blow dryer and flat iron, because it makes a huuuge difference in how well it flattens everything out. If you try this look, tag me so I can see! 🙂

        1. Ah, practice makes perfect! It took me forever to get french braiding down. For some reason, it really helped learning to do it on someone else and then when my fingers were used to the technique, it was easier to do on myself!

  10. This is such a classy look and so versatile for all the holiday functions and festivities.

  11. Hi Miranda! I was wondering if there is any way to enter the giveaway if you don’t have any social media accounts? I don’t have any of the entry options.

    1. Hi Renee! I just added another entry type that does not require social media. 🙂 Good luck.

  12. When I had long hair for years and years, braided looks were my favorite. Love this updo braided look! Wish I had known about it back then
