City Color Blush Cream & Powder Duo Review

As we move into dryer weather, I love incorporating more cream products like blush into my makeup routine. They tend to help boost your natural glow and add a perfect finishing touch on any look. Combining powder and cream blush is also a great hack for long lasting color.

First of all, these compacts are huge— a bit larger than the palm of my hand. This makes me very happy because many duos don’t give you enough space to really sweep a brush in the pan and pick up color. No problem with these!

Another main problem that comes with duos of different formulas is powder gunking up in the cream section. Again, not an issue with the City Color duos. The powder is stiff enough that it doesn’t produce a lot of kickback, but soft enough that it’s easy to pick up with a brush. The cream has a slick feel that dries down on the face with a smooth powder finish.

City Color makes some of the most pigmented blushes I own, and these have awesome color payoff as well. I highly suggest building up to the intensity you want— don’t just dive in and swipe it on because you will end up with too much to blend out. Start slowly and add layers.

Let’s take a look at the shade options.

Rust

Rust has a warm feel, though it appears more pink when applied to the skin than it does in the pan. You get a terra-cotta cream blush (lower swatch) and an apricot powder that I think are very fall appropriate.

Peachy Nude

Peachy Nude is probably the more universal of the three, with a mauve cream blush (lower swatch) and medium peach powder. They’re pretty neutral in undertone so you can match this duo with all sorts of different looks.

Coral Pink

Coral Pink is the brightest of the bunch. The cream shade is a rouge pink (lower swatch) and the powder is a neutral coral. I prefer this one for looks where my face is the focus and other elements (like eyes and lips) are downplayed.

Wearing a light layer of Peachy Nude’s cream shade.

I’ve mostly been wearing these utilizing either one side or the other depending on the rest of my makeup. They both wear well into the 6th hour without patchiness before starting to fade. However, if you’re wearing a full face and want maximum staying power, applying a thin layer of the cream shade first and topping off with the powder will do the trick. This will also intensify the color, so be warned and take my advice about layering!

Overall, for just $5.99 the City Color Blush Cream & Powder Duos are an awesome addition to a fall makeup collection and will definitely get a lot of use as my social calendar starts filling up. Is it me, or does fall and winter call for long lasting looks will all of the special occasions!? Don’t forget to use the code SlashedBeauty for 10% off at checkout!
