REVIEW: Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream

After the intense rainstorm last weekend, we finally have our good weather back in L.A., and it’s starting to feel a lot like spring! Temperatures are rising and it’s about that time we start transitioning our makeup products to reflect that. On particularly warmer days, I like to swap out my normal foundation for BB cream to moisturize, protect, and even out my skin.

Aveeno has always been a brand I can trust when it comes to my skin. For the past few weeks, I’ve been testing their Clear Complexion BB Cream in Medium.

Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream

The BB cream claims to even and conceal for a flawless complexion, and contains SPF 30 for ample protection. It has a medium, creamy consistency that is easy to blend. The oil-free formula is lightweight and moisturizing, which works well with my combo skin. The packaging is really convenient, with a lockable pump that disperses a good amount of product.

I noticed that the BB cream actually contains teeny tiny shimmer particles that give the face a luminous glow. I do like the affect it has on the skin, but for this reason I don’t find that it’s buildable, because the shimmer will start to look too obvious. This also might work against you if you have oily skin in the first place. The BB cream has an added fragrance which is light and pleasant, but I usually like to avoid scents in face products just in case of irritation. Luckily, I had no adverse affects with this product.

The coverage is very light. It does blur and lightly conceal my blemishes and scars at first, but throughout the day they start peeking through more and more. I don’t think the pigment is enough for those who really want to even out their complexion. Also, it’s not waterproof… at all. I went out in rain for less than 10 seconds while I had this BB cream on, and it was running off of my face once I got to dry ground. Imagine how it would look on a hot day after sweating? No thanks!

Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream is available in two shades: fair to light, and medium. Medium is a tad too warm for my neutral beige skin tone, but perhaps might match more in summer. In drugstores it costs around $15, which is a bit pricey for the performance. Overall, I would have liked more of a long-lasting coverage, and less shimmer. Back to the drawing board in the search for the next best BB cream!

Do you have a go-to BB cream that you can recommend?

  1. It is an all in one make put up,moisturizer, foundation and sunscreen.so don’t have to put on three different products. It makes your skin feel soft and has a fresh scent.

  2. Thank you for this review, I have been pondering whether to purchase the Aveeno BB cream! I am testing out a new (to me) CC cream from L’Oreal right now per one of my subscribers request! Have you tried the Pond’s BB+ Cream, I really like it and I believe it is around $5 at WalMart.

    1. Wow , that’s a steal! I haven’t tried any products from Pond’s, but now I may just have to!

    1. Really? I disagree… but perhaps if someone has really dry skin and likes shimmer it would work for them. There’s always someone…

  3. I really like the Korean ones, like Peach Girl and Missha. Running off my face? No thanks, it rains too often here in Florida for that!

  4. I had no idea Aveeno had a BB cream! I have a few different ones I use, but I may look for this

  5. I didn’t even know Aveeno had a BB Cream… wow. I don’t use face products like foundation or BB Cream because of my sensitive skin, but it’s good to know that this is out there. It’s a shame it doesn’t last long.

  6. I can’t do the whole BB cream, I just feel I need more coverage. I would love to know when you find an awesome one though and I may try it!

    1. There are some BB/CC that work really well. A great full coverage one that I’ve found is the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream… a bit pricey but verrrry nice.

  7. I’m pretty faithful to my Olay Total Effects CC cream. It’s very lightweight and works well for me 🙂

  8. Another vote for Missha Perfect Cover. Also if you shop on their US website, they have some darker shades (unlike many of the other Korean BB creams which just come in various version of ghostly pale, haha). The coverage on this actually looks OK, too bad it didn’t hold up…

    1. Yeah I wish they had more of a shade selection too because it’s not quite buildable and just too warm on me, which might have had a difference in getting a better coverage and evening out the tone!

  9. I like the MIssha M Perfect Cover for a BB cream. Since I have been using IT CC cream and Ole Henriksen, I haven’t really reached for the Missha! Have you tried the Physicians Formula?

  10. Too bad that it doesn’t last very long 🙁 I normally get my BB creams from Korea because they provide great coverage as well as skin caring benefits.

  11. Bummer that it isn’t long lasting or waterproof. A great New BB is the Benefit Big Easy! Bought it the other day and am in LOVE with it.
