This summer was made for adventure. If you’ve been keeping up, I just returned from a trip to Ireland where my mom and I drove across country, hiking through the countryside and strolling through the city streets. Now, I only have two months to prepare for my next trip: Israel!
Adam and I were accepted on a program to go to Israel with a group of other young adults from Los Angeles, and we couldn’t be more excited… but there’s a lot to prepare for. It’s probably the most foreign place I’ve been in a long time (I mean really… Ireland has a similar culture but with better food and beer). Aside from preparing in terms of shopping for culturally appropriate clothes, electricity converters, and other essentials, both Adam and I need to prepare for the outdoor activities in store!
Since we’re going in August, you better believe we’re looking at high-90s weather. Hiking. In the sun. Across the desert. Yeah, that’s going to be a piece of cake… not. To get ready, Adam and I have made a goal to go hiking weekly leading up to our trip. Since we’re in the Valley, it can get pretty hot here, too! So we’re ready to start getting in shape while acclimating to being active in the sunshine.
Of course, that means that protection can’t be ignored. I’ve been getting better about applying sunscreen regularly year round, since even in overcast weather you can get sun damage! But with the desert sun shining high, I’m going to have to really take care of my skin.
SPF level isn’t the only thing I look for when I’m selecting sun protection. Since we can also expect humid weather, I don’t want to slather on a thick layer of product that’s going to make me feel like jumping out of my skin. I want a light, barely-there feeling. On top of that, it’s gotta be sweat and waterproof to keep up with the varied outdoor summer activities we have planned.
So last weekend in preparation for our inaugural Sunday hike, I jetted to Walmart to grab something that’d offer me a little more than the SPF in my moisturizer. The Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™ Weightless Sunscreen seemed like it would get the job done perfectly.
This sunscreen is perfect for all of my planned summer activities. While it’s extremely creamy, the formula is weightless and has a barely-there feel once it quickly absorbs into your skin. It feels breathable while still being super hydrating, offering 12 hours of moisturization that doesn’t feel heavy. It’s also water resistant up to 80 minutes, so whether I’m sweating my head off climbing a mountain or taking a dip in the Dead Sea, it’ll be doing its job.
And, as with the brand’s other products, it has that unmistakable sweet Hawaiian Tropic® fragrance that takes you away whether you’re abroad on vacation or just catching some rays in your backyard. I picked mine up in SPF 30 for safe and effective broad-spectrum protection. Why is the broad-spectrum label so important? It means that it saves your skin from both UVA rays, the ones that penetrate deep into the skin causing serious damage (and the ones still around in overcast weather!), and UVB rays, which are the ones that will cause sunburns and contribute to skin cancer.
So now, at least I have one thing crossed off my list for prepping for my summer adventuring! You can learn more and read reviews of the Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™ Weightless Sunscreen on their website, and pick it up at your local Walmart.
