How I Manage Unwanted Facial Hair

Let’s be upfront: we all have facial hair. It’s not out of the ordinary for a woman to have hair on her upper lip, chin or cheeks. While some have the easily hidden “peach fuzz,” many women— myself included— have more noticeable hairs in these places. Although it’s not necessary to remove facial hair, I personally find it distracting when I work hard on my makeup and dark hairs get in the way of a smooth looking complexion.

How I Manage Unwanted Facial Hair

I’ve tried many different techniques to manage my unwanted facial hair. Hair removal creams would always leave my skin red and irritated, which was even more obvious than the hair itself. One time, I sported a goatee of redness left behind from a harsh product for about a week! For many years after that, I just stuck to using a small razor. Although, that led to the hairs looking thicker because of the blunt tip created from shaving.

Finally I settled on what has become an easy, painless and effective way to make my facial hair less noticeable: bleaching! Before, I had always been scared to use bleach products because they sounded harsh (I mean, come on, I use bleach to clean my shower!). Little did I know that bleaching with the right products make life a whole lot easier when it comes to unwanted hair.

Jolen Creme Bleach is my go-to to easily lighten my facial hair. It was the first cream bleach ever available and is the #1 selling bleach brand in the World… needless to say, I trust it to get the job done. I use the Sensitive Formula which contains aloe vera, perfect for my skin which needs a more gentle approach.

This bleach is super easy to work with; you just mix the accelerator powder with the cream and you’re ready for application (it comes with a spatula and cup for mixing). About half of a teaspoon of cream is able to cover my chin, cheeks and upper lip. The best part for me: it only takes 10 minutes for the hair to lighten, which is no time at all.

After application, my hairs are virtually unnoticeable, and my skin is soft and smooth. Sometimes, I have to go for a second application on my chin, which tends to breed particularly thick hairs (ugh). Even with a second go, no irritation pops up after using Jolen. I repeat the process every few weeks, which is way less often than when I was maintaining my hair by shaving!

Using bleach is now my favorite way to manage unwanted facial or body hair (you can also use Jolen on the arms and stomach!). Sure, I look like Santa Claus for ten minutes during the process, but the results are better and more low maintenance than other methods I’ve tried.

To celebrate their 50th year on shelves, Jolen is holding a giveaway for a chance to win $50 gift cards to retailers that carry their products (including ULTA, CVS, Harmon, and Rite Aid). Enter here before November 14, 2014. Don’t forget to stay connected to Jolen on Facebook for offers, giveaways and the latest in #GoConfidently beauty tricks from celebrity makeup artists.
