Is Showering Every Day Bad for Skin? My Skin-Saving Secret

I’ve partnered with the Dove team to create this post. All opinions my own.

Are you a daily shower-er? I’ll be honest, I never used to be. Showering every two days used to be my sweet spot, otherwise my skin would get really dry and irritated from all the soap and hot water. But now that I’m living a more active lifestyle with almost daily workouts, I need to wash off the sweat and grime from the gym each night before bed.

But isn’t showering every day bad for your skin? Well, if you’re not using the right products, then you’re probably disrupting your microbiome with each wash. The microbiome is the skin’s living protective layer and a balanced diverse skin microbiome serves an important role in keeping skin healthy, moisturized, and resilient. To maintain a balanced skin microbiome, you need to be gentle on your skin.

With a gentle body wash, daily showers don’t have to be a detriment to your skin. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might know that I’m a loyal fan of Dove Body Wash. I recently found out that Dove Body Wash is microbiome gentle. Makes sense, as it’s one of the few body washes that doesn’t leave me scaly after a warm winter shower every day. It’s sulfate-free and pH balanced, and comes in many variations, including Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash, Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash, and Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash. My favorite for daily showers is the Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash. It’s super creamy, and despite being sulfate-free, still lathers up for a sudsy glide. Even as I rinse it off, I can tell that my skin already feels softer.

I only just started testing out Dove Exfoliating Body Wash a few weeks ago, but it’s definitely a new favorite for when my skin needs a little extra TLC. The exfoliators help polish dull skin and bring it back to life while still gently cleansing, leaving a smooth finish. I love that with this body wash, I don’t have to juggle different products to cleanse and scrub. It’s the perfect all-in-one to awaken tired skin.

While I do still follow up my shower with lotion, I feel that when I’m using Dove Body Wash, the hydration lasts much longer… probably because my microbiome is feeling intact and doing its job! I don’t find myself feeling itchy or looking ashy as quickly as with other body washes (usually straight out of the shower, to be honest!). My skin feels comfortable, soft and hydrated and stays that way until my next shower.

Not only do you get a body wash that does your skin good, but it’s also affordable! Only $5.99 for a huge 22 fl oz bottle that actually lasts more than just a few weeks in my household of two (and my husband showers twice a day!). It’s pretty much a no-brainer for us.

I shower daily is so relaxing to me those few minutes of pure heaven and apply some oil or cream afterwards always. I’m liking Lubriderm Advanced Therapy intensive extra-dry skin. It does not feel heavy or sticky at all which I would hate. Sometimes in Summer I will shower twice! Or especially after a run and never ever skip one during pms is just plain gross! Lol!

I take baths often that are hotter than they should be and wreak havoc on my skin. I have to moisturize frequently to combat dryness. This body wash seem wonderful and so affordable.

I don’t think that showering daily is bad for skin. I no longer do so daily but at least every other day. As long as I put on body lotion right after my shower it works out great.

I love taking showers, and I know the water I use is too hot but I can’t help it. This body wash from Dove sounds lovely!
