Comfy Chic: Dolman Top + Pencil Skirt

I’ve been itching to add more sophisticated pieces to my wardrobe lately. Even though my office practices “Casual Friday” every day, it always feels good to dress for success. I decided to treat myself to a little new years shopping when Forever 21 was having an insane 30% markdown on their online sale section. My goal was to find items that would be versatile enough to dress up for the office or class, and dress down for hanging out on the weekends.

I am so in love with this Turtleneck Dolman Top I got for a whopping $2.79 after the discount. As soon as it was delivered and I tried it on, I ran to the computer so I could order four more in different colors. Just my luck, they were already completely sold out. I can’t tell you how comfortable this top is. It’s so light and flowy which is great as the weather starts transitioning into spring, but is still a bit nippy. The fitted neck and arms give it a little bit of shape while the body is loose. It looks cute with jeans for a super casual and comfortable look, but can easily be made more dressy with leggings, or a skirt like this one. I added this chunky bib necklace which helps add a neckline, even with the high collar.

The skirt also rang in at under $3 after discount, and is a nice marsala addition to my wardrobe. Pencil skirts are great pieces to have in your closet because they can be used for almost any occasion, depending on what you pair them with. I really liked the vertical ribbed texture of this particular skirt, which I feel contours the body and flatters my figure. I pull the skirt up to my waist since the top runs a little short in front, so I’ll wear flats to preserve the office-appropriateness.

I am loving these pieces and can’t believe how dirt cheap they were! I frequent the sale racks in-store at Forever 21, but these were definitely my best steals.

On another note, fashion blogging is hard when you don’t have someone else to take your pictures! I was running all over campus trying to find an empty space so I could avoid nosy onlookers. The struggle is real.

  1. Your photos are freaking amazing! I can’t believe you didn’t have someone shooting for you!

    1. Haha thank you! Had to deal with a lot of people thinking I was taking glorified selfies.. Which I guess I was lol

  2. Awesome buys! I love it when Forever 21 has crazy sales. And OMG yes, taking your own pictures is difficult without assistance. I would probably do occasional OOTD photos if I didn’t have to awkwardly take them myself, haha!

    1. Soo awkward. Luckily campus is a little less crowded on Saturdays but still had to deal with staring and some guy asked me out!

  3. Very nice. 🙂 I need to find me a really good pair of flats. You look fabulous and that pencil skirt – the color is popping.

  4. Looking so professional. Yes, dress for success. That’s one thing I’ve learned from my grandma. And another food for thought, it’s easier to dress down when you’re overdressed for an occasion.
