REVIEW & SWATCHES: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains

If anybody’s on top of their moisturizing lip product game, it’s Revlon. Their latest innovation: the Colorstay Moisture Stain, new for Summer 2014.

REVIEW & SWATCHES: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains

These stains are a fusion between a balm stain and a gloss, giving you shiny, brightΒ color while moisturizing your lips. TheyΒ are infused with Vitamin E and aloe for a comfortable and moisturizing feel. I’m happy to report that they are not tacky in the least bit, hallelujah!

REVIEW & SWATCHES: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains

The shades I own are:

London Posh-Β a shimmery light beige with pink undertones
Milan Moment- a melon orange
LA Exclusive-Β a Barbie pink
Cannes Crush-Β a bright coral
Barcelona Nights-Β a hot pink with blue undertones
India Intrigue-Β a deep magentaΒ that leans purple
Shanghai Sizzle-Β a warm, bright red
Parisian Passion-Β a black cherry purple

All but one shadeΒ settledΒ into aΒ smooth and even finish. Unfortunately, London Posh is not only too light for my lips, but slid around and wouldn’t set. They all display a bit of translucency, letting your lips slightly shine through. So if you have darker lips, the lighter colors might not be your favorite.

This formula is not one you can just apply quickly and go on about your dayΒ with. When worn alone, you need to be patient and nudge it around before it starts looking good. At first, it will seem thick and slippery, butΒ eventuallyΒ evens out and hugs the lips (trust me, it takes a few minutes). You’ll want to avoid eating or drinking anything for the first half hour after application to avoid major transferring, and to let the color stain your lips.

Out of these eight, Cannes Crush, Barcelona Nights, India Intrigue, Shanghai Sizzle, and Parisian Passion left the most pigmented stains. The color lasted around 5 hours, even through one meal and constant water sipping! Shanghai Sizzle applied the most opaquely.

Watch the video for a closer look at each shade:

While they remind me of the Maybelline Color Elixirs, a few key characteristics set them a part. For one, they contain more product for the same price point. Also, while the Color Elixirs are more on the liquid lipstick side, these definitely feel more glossy and slick. The Moisture Stains do not have a discernible taste or scent, which is a plus in my book.

REVIEW & SWATCHES: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains

The Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains retail for around $9.99, containing .27 fl oz of product. You can currently pre-order them on Walgreens.com, but they will be slowly popping up in drugstores throughout June.

Do think you will enjoy these better than the Matte/Lacquer/Just Bitten Balms in the chubby pencil form?

  1. I tried the Shanghai Sizzle yesterday and thought it didn’t last at all and sure shouldn’t be labeled a stain! Awful. Buyer beware.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that, Mandy!! The formula didn’t work for some people. I usually wait a while to drink or eat after applying, so perhaps that’s why it lasted longer for me πŸ™ Try returning it!

  2. These look awesome. I can’t wait to try them. I’ve been waiting for them to show up in my stores.

  3. I read this earlier just before I went shopping at WalMart and I meant to look to see if they had them there but I totally forgot! They remind me of those Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers (I was wearing one of those today so that’s probably the only reason I thought of that!) but just a little more sheer. I am curious as to what nail polish you’re wearing in this video – it looks like what I’m wearing right now which is an old Revlon shade called Jaded. I can’t tell if yours is light green or blue but either way it’s pretty!!

    1. It’s a new shade from the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear collection called Kelp Yourself, a really light mint green πŸ˜€ The Rimmel lip lacquers are definitely a lot more thin in consistency than these (which I sort of prefer), with less shine.

  4. I think these look interesting but I’m not a fan of the wet look right now. I’m all about mattes but that could be because it’s Fall/Winter in Australia.

  5. I really like these! I think Parisian Passion is my fave. I love a good berry lippie. Berrie Lippie?

  6. I can’t wait to get my hands on a couple of these…though I am a huge fan of the chubby pencils. Not sure which I’ll love more!

    Great post!

  7. What gorgeous shades. I am digging Parsian Passion. They remind of the YSL glosses. Beautiful!!
