With the sun finally making its appearance more regularly, it’s time to talk about sun protection! I hope ya’ll are wearing sunscreen or SPF products on the daily year round, but it’s especially important in the Spring and Summer when we typically spend more time outdoors enjoying the sunshine.

When it comes to my body, I can pretty much grab any sunscreen and go. My face is a different story though. Being acne prone with combo skin— plus wearing makeup almost daily— heavily influences what face sunscreen I use. Plus, I may choose different products based on my activity or skin needs at the moment. The sunscreen you use on your face should be picked carefully based on your own skin type and beauty routine.

Keep reading to discover my picks for the best drugstore sunscreens for the face, and what sets each one apart. Click the picture of the sunscreen to find it online.

6 Best Drugstore Sunscreens for the Face to use Under Makeup or Alone | Slashed Beauty

1. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Face Sunscreen SPF 30
This sunscreen has the creamiest consistency out of all my picks, while still being incredibly lightweight once it sets into the skin. The extra moisture is great and heavily needed for the dry climate I live in, and for dry skin types in general. The formula is oil-free but contains silk protein and shea butter for 12 hours of long lasting moisture that doesn’t feel greasy and won’t clog pores. It’s also water resistant, making it perfect for the pool or even when I’ll be sweating on a hike. It’s scented with a light tropical fragrance that instantly gives me vacation vibes! I use this when I need extra hydration help, and mores when I’ll be bare-faced (no makeup).

2. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30
When I need a little help evening out my skin tone, this is a great option! Not only does it protect with SPF 30, but it uses natural light diffusers to make your skin look instantly brighter. With continued use, it can help even skin tone and texture thanks to the soy complex. This works great under makeup for a subtle glow. If you struggle with blotchy skin or discoloration, this one’s got your back… or face, rather.

3. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock
If you absolutely hate the feel of traditional sunscreen, this one’s for you. The finish is shine-free and feels barely there, absorbing instantly. It’s perfect for using under makeup without changing the finish of your foundation, or wear it on its own without feeling greasy. If you have oily skin, this is a good pick.

4. Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer Sensitive Skin SPF 15
If you have sensitive skin, this fragrance-free sunscreen is a fantastic option. However, since it’s only SPF 15, I would suggest layering a foundation on top that also contains sun protection, or using this on days where you won’t be exposed to the sun for long periods at a time. It’s a gentle and lightweight formula that contains aloe, vitamin E and is fragrance-free, dye-free, and sulfate-free.

5. Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Airbrushing Pressed Powder SPF 30
If you’re putting on face sunscreen in the morning and don’t reapply throughout the day, don’t get surprised if you end up with a burn in the late afternoon. Sunscreen needs to be reapplied to be effective. How do you do this if you have makeup on, you ask? You can now get SPF in powder form to apply over foundation! This pressed translucent powder from Physicians Formula is talc-free and provides SPF 30 that you can brush on to touch up your protection without messing with your makeup.

6. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30
I’m a huge fan of the Hydro Boost line from Neutrogena, and am stoked about the new Water Gel Lotion. I love this formula for my combo skin that needs moisture without over-doing it in my oily areas. It has the same hyaluronic acid formula the rest of the collection features that provides instant hydration that sinks in quickly and lasts all day. It’s invisible under makeup and you don’t have any heavy residue feeling left behind. If you like their other Hydro Boost products, this one won’t disappoint.

Since it dries down as close to matte as possible, you’re not left with a greasy feeling and you won’t get more shiny than usual for oily skin! In fact some people say that it helps keep them from getting oily.
