8 Style Picks to Rock Y2K Fashion Trends in 2021
I am over the moon that Y2K fashion is making a comeback in 2021. I’m getting a second chance at all the trends I wanted to wear as a kid but was either too young or too self conscious to try. It honestly feels like a time warp walking through racks of clothes in stores right now!
Today I’m rounding up some wearable Y2K outfit inspo to create your own throwback looks with my favorite returning trends. Click the picture of the item to find it online.
1. Sidefeel Women Ripped Flare Jeans Mid Rise ($38.99 on Amazon)
Just a few months ago, a consignment store refused my boot cut jeans for being out of style. Uno reverse card! Flare jeans are back in style, which I forgot that I actually like? But I’m drawing the line at mid-rise… you’ll never catch me in low-rise again!
2. Romwe Rib Knit Tie Knot Long Sleeve Crop Blouse ($14.99 on Amazon)
Y2K fashion was all about layering, and a tie-knot crop was essential! To update the look, wear it on its own as a crop or drape it over a tank. It’s honestly perfect for a little extra coverage in Spring.
3. White Mark Women’s Velour Tracksuit 2pc Set ($60 at Macy’s)
We all know the legacy Juicy tracksuits left behind, and while you can still get them from the iconic brand, they’re expensive AF for a look that may only be back for a limited time. This two-piece set is a much more affordable way to pay homage to the uniform of the 2000’s.
4. Butterfly Clips 100c Set ($5.98 on Amazon)
I mean… self explanatory.
5. Coach Pillow Tabby Shoulder Bag ($495 at Coach)
Coach was an it-brand in the 00’s, and while they never went away, their recent designs have been on point. They recently gave their classic Tabby Shoulder Bag a Y2K makeover with this new puffy silhouette, and dang I’m lusting! Side note— why was everything puffy and inflatable back then?I’m loving the bubblegum pink color, but it’s also available in Black and Ivory.
6. Wild Fable Smocked Tube Top ($8 at Target)
One of my favorite returning Y2K fashion trends that I will definitely be wearing the heck out of is tube tops! This one actually has spaghetti ties at the shoulders for extra detail, and that classic ruched texture that was everywhere back in the day.
7. Fila Disruptor II Sneakers ($55-75 on Amazon)
Chunky sneakers have been back for a while, but they will perfectly and authentically compliment this style. My favorite are the Fila Disrupters, which come in a bunch of different colors— mine are in pink and they always make a statement.
8. Juicy Couture Tie-Dye Bucket Hat ($14.99 at Forever 21)
As mentioned earlier, Juicy was THE brand of Y2K. If you want to bring them back into your closet without spending a ton, they just did a collab with Forever 21 with reasonably priced items like this tie dye bucket hat (and yes, I do own this now).
9. Pleated Mini Skort & Tie Back Scarf Top Set ($29/$40 at ASOS)
As if!! Plaids and pleats are back, and this set will make you look anything but Clueless. You can also buy the pieces individually, but both the top and skirt would be easy to mix and match with other things in your closet.
10. Sofia Jeans by Sofia Vergara Women’s Puff Sleve Denim Jacket ($34 at Walmart)
Denim on denim isn’t a fashion crime anymore, and this jacket from Sofia Vergara’s Walmart line is perfect to rock the look. They have a puffy shoulder and sleeve for a bit of a twist on the staple. It’s also available in plus sizes.
