Revlon x Sofia Carson Collection Launches with Exclusive & Classic Shades
Revlon just teamed up with actress Sofia Carson for a new collection of some of their most popular products in her favorite shades. The heroes of the collection are the Lip and Nail kits, which will have you color coordinating flawlessly, though you can also buy the products individually if only a couple catch your eye.
I’ve been seeing the most hype surrounding the lip colors in the collection, which include the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor formula and the Super Lustrous The Luscious Matte Lipstick formula.
The Revlon x Sofia Carson Super Lustrous The Luscious Matte Lipsticks are the stars of this entire collection in my humble opinion. I reviewed and swatched the original shades in this post where you can see what they look like after all day wear. These are super pigmented, and glide on smoothly for opaque color in one swipe. They’re really lightweight and relatively comfortable for a matte. Some shades look more flat than others, but they’re all stunning.
The Revlon x Sofia Carson Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors are a creamy liquid lipstick with a soft matte finish. In fact, when the original product came out nearly five years ago, they caused a bit of a stir because they take a long time to dry down to a matte finish— it’ll look glossy longer than it does matte before it wears off. You can read my original review of the formula here. They’re comfortable to wear, never feeling dry, though I would recommend a lip liner as you may find the bolder shades to feather.
Shades swatched:
- The Luscious Matte Lipstick in Untold Stories
- The Luscious Matte Lipstick in Obsessed
- The Luscious Matte Lipstick in On Fire
- The Luscious Matte Lipstick in The Sofia Red
- Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Obsessed
- Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Forever Yours
- Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in The Sofia Red
- Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Wish
Out of all eight lip products, only two gave me issues: the Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors in The Sofia Red and Wish. I found these to apply a lot thinner than the others, and definitely not as pigmented. I got The Sofia Red to look decent but still not as striking as the Luscious Matte counterpart. Wish was a bit of a lost cause for me— it applied patchy and looked uneven no matter how many times I layered it.
The Revlon x Sofia Carson Super Lustrous Nail Enamels will definitely be getting a lot of use in my collection. This is one of my favorite drugstore nail polish formulas– they have just the right consistency for easy application and practically one-coat color. The shades swatched above left to right are Obsessed, The Sofia Red, Black Cherry and In the Woods. Obsessed and The Sofia Red only needed one coat, the other two needed two for complete opaque coverage.
My other gripe is that only half the shades are exclusive to this collection, the others being re-promoted in the limited edition packaging. Obsessed and The Sofia Red are the shades Sofia created herself to reflect her go-to nude and favorite red. It always sort of irks me when we’re sold a “new” product when it’s… not new… just new packaging. However, I do see the draw in the existing shades being grouped together in the kits as a value set.
The Lip and Nail Kits come in two versions: The Sofia Nudes, which includes the two lip colors and nail polish in Obsessed, and The Sofia Reds which includes the two lip colors and nail polish of the same name.
The individual products will be available at Walmart on July 21, though have popped up in some stores early. You can preorder them online now.
