Holiday Hair Tutorial: Easy & Elegant Braided Updo
My calendar is filling up quickly as the holidays approach! I am completing my finals in school during the next couple weeks, which leaves me with little time to plan out extravagant holiday looks. Last Monday, I showed you my go-to holiday party makeup that I’ve been wearing pretty frequently this season. Today, I’ve got a heavily requested tutorial to show you how to create this elegant braided updo that is quick and easy.
If you already know how to french braid, this hairstyle will be a cinch. If you don’t, I explain it briefly in the tutorial below. Watch for the step-by-step, and for details about the giveaway!
This style takes all of about five minutes to complete and I always get compliments when I wear it. It’s been one of my favorite ways to wear my hair since I cut it to a medium length (which seriously limited the number of hairdos I can pull off).
Now for the fun stuff: enter to win your own Shine Brush and bottle of Umberto Beverly Hills Dry Texture Spray to help you create your own go-to holiday hairstyles! This giveaway is open to residents 18+ in the USA, and will be accepting entries until midnight on December 25th, 2014. Use the widget below to enter, good luck!
i like a braided chignon.
I love my hair in curly updo
My favorite holiday hair style is a messy bun with some silver glitter
fun!! how do you add the glitter?
updo for dress up
Classic French twist
I really want to learn how to do a french twist! I think they’re gorgeous.
French braid
Great choice! This style should be easy for you then!
Your hair looks amazing going to try this
Thanks so much Betty! Tag me in any pictures you take if you try it!
I like curls or waves for my holiday looks!
I loved doing curls when I had a longer hair!
A mi me gusta llevar un chongo es mucho mas fácil de llevar y asi evitó estar al pendiente de siempre retirar el cabello de ni rostro muy bonito peinado gracias por el sorteo
Obsessed with this hair and you look absolutely beautiful in these photos!
Thank you so much, ivy!
I usually don’t put my hair in a braid but I might try this look out!
Tag me if you take a pic!!
I wear my hair a little fancier during the holidays when visiting friends and family. I use my clipless curling iron to get loose spirals throughout my hair. I have long hair, so it looks feminine and bouncy but not overdone.
That’s one of my favorite looks for events, too! I used to do it more when my hair was longer since it would look super “done” 🙂
I raved & shared your video- I just adore this!
Thank you Stephanie!! 🙂
Your hair is perfect! That looks so stinkin’ cute. I’ve loved just twisting my hair and wrapping a ponytail holder around it after shampoo days…it looks sleek and elegant up, and it makes great curls when I take it out!

Thank you so much! That updo sounds so cute 🙂
I love your hair! Mine’s too short for that updo right now, but in future years, I will definitely want to try it!
It’s hard to find styles when your hair is short! I’ve been there 😛
I love doing a messy bun but then poofing the top up, it ends up looking very fifties pin-up! Takes about two minutes, too, which is always a good option for me.
So cute!! I’ll do that when I’m in a rush too 🙂
I love doing an upside down french braid!
Wow! How do you do that??!
I know, lol! I saw a post on it, you flip hair over and start it from the nape of your neck. I like doing it loose and making a little messy bun on top with little flower clips but now I’ve seen it done a ton of ways (:
I keep it simple and use a hairband.
Cute accessories make all the difference!
Definitely a classy bun up-do which says chic and classy!
Very cute!
The undo looks great!
I think I might actually be able to make my hair do this look! I can never get it to say in any kind of updo, but if I can put massive amounts of bobby pins in, it might just work!
If you do it, tag me so I can see!! 🙂
Very pretty look!
Gorgeous ‘do! I remember when school started for you – can’t believe it’s finals time!
I wish I had half the hair you did! 🙁 I have baby fine, thin hair and it’s sometimes impossible to do updos, but I’m gonna try this!
If you try it, tag me, I’d love to see!
You look so gorgeous girly! I love the hair!!!
Very pretty–you are so damn cute!
omg this looks SO GOOD!!!! IDK how you do it, girl… I don’t have half your hair and I’m a hot mess lol
I have naturally curly hair so it takes a lot of product and work to straighten it. Of course that’s the way I like it the best! I save straightening for special occasions. But i can’t wait to try this look. So simple but looks so elegant.
I also have naturally curly (and THICK) hair. I do suggest investing in some high quality tools like a blow dryer and flat iron, because it makes a huuuge difference in how well it flattens everything out. If you try this look, tag me so I can see! 🙂
Yup, tried it. Nope, didn’t work. Painfully obvious I can NOT french braid!
Ah, practice makes perfect! It took me forever to get french braiding down. For some reason, it really helped learning to do it on someone else and then when my fingers were used to the technique, it was easier to do on myself!
This is such a classy look and so versatile for all the holiday functions and festivities.
LOVE LOVE this look!! I am def trying this!
Hi Miranda! I was wondering if there is any way to enter the giveaway if you don’t have any social media accounts? I don’t have any of the entry options.
Hi Renee! I just added another entry type that does not require social media. 🙂 Good luck.
Thanks so much! Thanks for this opportunity!
Great tutorial! I’ll try that for Christmas 🙂
I love how braids are back! Sometimes it can be a challenge to braid this birds’ nest, though!
Cute hairstyle
Your hair looks amazing!
This is absolutely stunning on you!
When I had long hair for years and years, braided looks were my favorite. Love this updo braided look! Wish I had known about it back then
I love any braid look. You look great.
