The Best Drugstore Powder Foundation: Maybelline SuperStay Powder Foundation

Before last week, I hadn’t worn powder foundation since I was in middle school. Back in the day, there was never a powder that gave me enough coverage for my acne or hyperpigmentation, and so liquids and cream became my go-to choices. I never even though to give powders a fair shot at anything besides setting my liquid makeup… until now.

I’m super grateful to say that my skin is looking better now than it has in years. I finally feel like I can use less than full coverage and be comfortable with how my skin looks. Plus, now that I’m leaning toward more natural and minimalist makeup for daily wear, I wanted to dip my toe back into the powder game.

Enter: the Maybelline SuperStay Powder Foundation. I picked this up while filming a recent YouTube video, and I was blown away with the performance. While it claims to be full coverage, I’d say it’s medium-full at the most— still amazing for a powder! With that said, the coverage is incredibly impressive for a powder product. It evens out tone, hyper-pigmentation and redness with only the most stubborn spots still visible ever so slightly.

The powder itself has a creamy texture that applies smoothly and evenly onto the skin. It blends easily and builds up in layers without looking cakey or settling into lines. It also completely blurs my pores for an airbrushed appearance, which I didn’t know was possible with just powder.

As for wear time, another thing I was skeptical about with a powder, I was blown away with how my makeup looked at the end of the day. This foundation boasts up to 16 hours of wear, and while I only wore it for 8, it was just as smooth and the coverage was intact after all those hours. Even around my nose, which is my oiliest area, there wasn’t any visible breakdown which is astounding on me with any type of face product!

Above all, I was most impressed with how comfortable this powder foundation felt throughout the day. Even with combo skin, I lean dry during the winter months and I can’t stand a foundation that makes my skin feel too matte or tight. This foundation remained flexible and lightweight, even when built up for maximum coverage. I didn’t feel like I had makeup on at all, actually. It felt natural on top of looking like real skin, too.

I never thought I’d say it, but this is one of my new favorite foundations. I’ve been reaching for it for everyday makeup when I don’t want to wear “full beat” but it still lays an even canvas if I do want to wear a glam face. Especially if I don’t need the extra coverage, there’s no reason I need to wear anything heavier.
