Pool Bag Beauty Essentials
Next Monday, we’re celebrating Labor Day here in the States. Most working citizens get the treat of a three day weekend, best spent relaxing or having fun with friends. Since it marks the impending close of summer, many like to celebrate the day off with pool parties and barbecuing. While I usually stay plain-faced in my down time, especially if I’m going to be swimming, there are a few beauty items that are must-haves to avoid looking a complete mess post-dip. Low maintenance makeup that is easy to touch up, sun protection and hair care are staples for a well-packed pool bag.
Must-Have Beauty Products for Pool Parties:
1. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock
I always use a different sun protection product on my face than the rest of my body. Lightweight and water resistant, this sunblock from Neutrogena is non-comedogenic. That means it won’t lend to clogging pores, which is perfect for my acne prone skin. You can also layer makeup on top of this without a caked-on feeling.
2. Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation
I always come back to this product when I’m in a rush, or want an easy way to touch up throughout the day. While it’s not waterproof, using it after swimming will help even out skin tone or blotchiness caused by the pool water. You can apply it directly onto the face, blend with your hands, and you’re ready to go!
3. Rimmel Scandaleyes Eye Shadow Paint
If you want to play up the eyes with something that will last, this is what you’ll want to wear. These cream eyeshadows have a pigmented, metallic finish that is waterproof and creaseproof. You can add a wash of color to your lids, or apply it as a liner.
3. NYX Collection Noir Liquid Black Liner
Want to keep things simple? I don’t blame you. This eyeliner has been my go-to since March, and I can’t stop talking about it! The waterproof formula is extremely pigmented, and the brush tip applicator makes it easy to apply.
4. NYX Butter Lip Balm
While lipstick might be going a little overboard for swimming, these lip balms both moisturize your lips while adding a decent amount of color! You’re definitely going to need to revive your lips after a day in the sun and in the pool; these balms will sooth your smoochers and keep you looking polished.
5. The Wet Brush
One reason why I’m always a bit hesitant to actually get in the pool at pool parties is the unpredictability of how my hair will turn out after dunking in chlorine water. Usually, it gets really tangled, really fast. Don’t forget to pack your Wet Brush! You’ll be able to brush through your hair more easily, and without imposing extra damage to it after the sun and chemical exposure.
6. Suave Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil
After you’ve got those knots out, it’s time to revive those locks. Chlorine can really suck the life out of your hair, so be sure to pack some nourishing oil to add moisture and shine. This one has a thicker consistency that will hydrate, as well as refresh with a pleasant scent!
7. DevaCurl DevaTowel
Don’t go rubbing your beach towel through your hair to get it dry— talk about creating a frizz factory! Using a microfiber towel specifically for your hair will help reduce breakage that would normally be caused by ordinary towels, which are too rough for your hair. Alternatively, you can use a clean cotton t-shirt to squeeze the water out.
I haven’t been to the pool all summer, and now it’s over!

I love, love love my Wet brush and it’s the only brush my 8 yr old niece will use on her hair.
Great choices. That Suave hair oil is my fave right now. And I totally am obsessed with my Wet brush. Great picks. I think I need that hair towel too!!!
Great choices!
I might need to try that Deva Towel. I wonder how it would compare to using turbans.
Putting some conditioner in your hair before dipping in the pool can help keep your hair from absorbing some of the chlorine, too. I love my Deva Towel! I use that and my Turbie Twist to help keep my hair out of the way after my shower.
That is a fantastic tip! I’ll definitely try that before swimming next time.
great list!
I like the Suave Moroccan Infusion treatment. It smells delicious and really softens and adds shine to my hair. I keep meaning to pick up a NYX Butter Gloss to try…
