How to Keep Your Makeup from Melting This Summer
It may be hot where you are, but it’s hotter than hot in Vegas. With average temperatures surpassing 110 daily, this weather ain’t makeup friendly. Luckily, I’ve had some experience living in the valley of LA as far as how to preserve my look when the sun is being a hater.
First of all, it’s definitely time to trade in your dewy products for matte finishes. Matte products tend to be a little longer lasting when faced with sweat. Whether it’s switching to a matte foundation or using powder highlighters instead of cream, if you have Normal/Combo/Oily skin, making this small tweak will make a big difference. For super dry skin, you still might be able to get away with more luminous formulas depending on the climate you live in.
After that, it’s all about setting powder or setting spray.
Setting powder is usually translucent— or sheer— and is added as a last step to your makeup to help keep everything in place. Some people also like to use it right after applying liquid foundation/concealer to set everything before blending more products on top. Using powder will help keep oil at bay, and mattify your look. I like to keep setting powder with me in my purse for when I’m starting to feel a bit shiny, especially in my nose area.
My favorite setting powders:
Setting spray helps seal your makeup in as well, without magnifying your makeup. If you have dry skin or dry patches on combo skin, this will feel and look better than powder. I like using this when I’ve used a lot of matte and powder products together— the spray helps make the finish look more natural and less cakey if I’ve gone too overboard.
My favorite setting sprays:
As a combination girl myself, sometimes I find myself using both products. I’ll use setting powder in my T-Zone, where I get most oily and where I’m sweating from the most (forehead and around the nose area), then I spray in a circular motion on the perimeters of my face (cheeks). This has been my routine for a couple years now to really set everything in place for when I need my makeup to last all day with no touch ups.

Hi, Miranda
I live on an island , I am trying my best to preserve my makeup. I do most use Indie products, I do prep my face with withhaze then moisturizer, On my eyelids I use Milani eye primer then a pinch of concealer , then my indie eyeshadow . I apply powder then stiing powder and at last sitting spray. any tips?
I’m guessing setting powder is going to be best because you’re probably in humid weather, right? That might work best to keep the moisture away!
Hi, Yes is very humid, Buth when do I need to apply it before the spray of after? can I also use a foundation powder? before them? Thank you for your answer
For you I’d use mattifying primer, then foundation (either powder or liquid), then setting powder then setting spray! Spray should be last because you can’t really powder over it evenly.
Thank you, I will look a mattifying primer. 🙂 thank you for your advice
