e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Mousse Foundation Review
After I took over the e.l.f. Cosmetics Snapchat back in November, I had a ton of people asking me to review the brand new Aqua Beauty Mousse Foundation. I myself was super excited about this release as I haven’t quite found an e.l.f. foundation that I’ve fallen in love with yet.
The Aqua Beauty Mousse Foundation is supposed to be hydrating with its formula containing coconut oil and vitamin E to give you a radiant finish and a sheer wash of coverage. While sheer isn’t necessarily something that I incorporate into my makeup routine— especially when it comes to face makeup— I had to give it a go.
First off, the foundation comes in a rather small tube that contains just under an ounce of product. You can see above the size of the tube compared to one of the brand’s makeup sponges. This makes the tube super portable and travel-friendly, though I’m curious how long it will actually last me with regular use.
The cap twists off to reveal a spout dispenser. I actually prefer this type of packaging vs. a pump, since you know you’ll be able to use every last drop without taking apart the bottle and going in with a spatula later on. Meanwhile, the foundation is kept sanitary and ready to use without much fuss.
The formula is more creamy than mousse-like in my opinion, but I understand the reference as it is extremely light-weight on the skin. To me, it almost has a powder finish in that it doesn’t look heavy or even really all that visible on the skin. However, I disagree with the product description that it only offers sheer coverage, as I was actually able to cover blemishes and uneven skin tone rather well. I would say you can build it up to medium coverage at best, which was a lot more than I was expecting!
You still do get radiance to your skin, but I wouldn’t say it looks or feels dewy… just bright and lit from within. With a skin-finish feel, it is a great base for both powder or cream products to layer on top of. I found it to last all day with some fading around prominent blemishes, which can be avoided with a little bit of concealer and setting powder.
Overall, I the Aqua Beauty Mousse Foundation is absolutely my favorite foundation that I’ve tried so far from the brand that outperforms its own claims. Whether you wear it lightly for an even base or build it up for a full face, I think this foundation will work really well for both dry, combo and normal skin types. Best part? It’s only $6!
