5 Ways to Fix Dry Skin ASAP
Thank you AquaphorⓇ for sponsoring this post.
With fall in full swing and winter just around the corner, temperatures are dropping pretty significantly… even here in Vegas! The past week has been one of the first times I’ve seen every day in double digit temperatures. While this is a serious relief from the intense heat we got over the past few months, I’m still a little anxious about what the season will bring when it comes to my skin. It’s already so dry out here… I’m not sure I’m ready for what’s to come.
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that it hardly takes any time for skin to become dry and rough, and it always takes forever trying to restore it? I swear at some point during the fall season, I just wake up with scaly looking skin everywhere. Bleh.
Luckily, there are actually easy ways to fix dry skin quickly. So stop wasting time and try out these tips!
1. Use Ointments, Not Lotions
When you’re dealing with really dry, rough skin, ditch the thin lotions and go for an ointment that will offer intense moisture to help heal. Throughout high school and college, I always kept AquaphorⓇ closeby for super dry patches on the body. I even turned my roommates on to it and we’d often get our jars confused. Now, I use the AquaphorⓇ Ointment Body Spray, which is an easier way to apply. The continuous spray helps apply the formula evenly and in thinner layers than you’re able to get with the original version—but with all the benefits! Plus, I feel better that the formula inside is staying more hygienic than it does in the jar.
AquaphorⓇ Ointment Body Spray is clinically proven to relieve very dry skin and prevents dryness from returning all day. The formula is hypoallergenic, preservative and fragrance free which is why I’ve trusted it on my sensitive skin. When I spray it onto my dry skin, I feel relief almost immediately and my skin feels thoroughly moisturized all day. Plus, I get a healthy looking glow, too. One of my favorite things to do in chilly weather is to spray my feet and cover them with socks overnight to get smooth soles. It’s also extra convenient for hard-to-reach places like the back, or larger surface areas like legs and arms.
2. Exfoliate
I know you’ve heard of this one time and time again, so what are you waiting for? When I have dry skin, it usually comes with flaking of dead skin too. Exfoliating with gentle scrubs or tools can help make dry skin feel new in a snap. From your legs to your lips, exfoliating helps with cell turnover to reveal smoother, brighter and healthier skin. You can even DIY your own with salt, sugar and moisturizing ingredients to do double duty.
Try mixing ½ cup sugar with ¼ cup coconut oil. Combine thoroughly, then gently rub over the skin. The sugar will remove dead skin while the coconut oil moisturizes. Rinse and reveal beautiful skin!
3. Layer Your Outfits
If you have to spend time outside, even if just for a short commute, be sure to dress accordingly and protect your skin from the harsh elements. Personally, my skin dries out very quickly when it’s cold and windy, so I be sure to stay as covered as possible. Layer your outfit so you can stay comfortable inside and outdoors. Scarves aren’t just fashion statements, but are essential to protecting the face—they’re my first defense against dry cheeks and lips!
4. Pat Skin Dry
When I hop out of the shower on a cold day, I’m super focused on drying off and getting into something warm. But don’t rush at the expense of your skin! Rubbing your skin with a towel can irritate it while wiping away much-needed moisture. Patting your skin dry helps absorb excess water while preserving hydration from products you’re using in the shower. This goes for your face, too! Rubbing not only picks up moisture but the tugging can lend itself to a loss in skin elasticity (ie. future sagging or wrinkles!). Try this next time you’re drying off to see and feel the difference.
5. Change Your Makeup Routine
Even if your skin care routine is on point, your makeup can have a big impact on how your skin acts. Does your go-to look include a ton of mattifying or powder products? These are accentuating your dry skin, probably making it look and feel worse than it actually is. Swap them out for liquids and creams for an instantly glowy appearance. Demi-matte or natural finish foundations will also help restore your radiance without feeling too dewy.

My legs get so dry in fall/winter! Aquaphor sounds like a great way to lock in the moisture.
I think it’s great that it is now available in this spray. I used to have to toss unfinished jars because they’d get messy, this would stay clean.
I love Aquaphor for my dry feet and scaly legs. A spray form would be awesome!
Great tips per usual. I hate dry skin during colder months but I love fall and winter more than summer tho
I like Aquaphor and I’ve never tried a spray moisturizer for my super dry skin. Worth a try!
