REVIEW: City Color Cosmetics Cheek Stains

While I like using cream products in my beauty routine near round, they are usually reserved for fall and winter weather by people with normal to oily skin. Cream blush is my favoriteβ€” I think it has a natural looking finish, and can also help your powder blush stay in place. It can be difficult to find one on the cheap that is pigmented and lasts.

When I first tried the City Color Cosmetics Cheek Stains, I literally let out a β€œwoah!” These little things look pretty ordinary from the outside in their plastic opaque packaging, but they pack a punch.

They house 0.18 oz of blush for $4.99, which is obviously a bit more expensive than the Jordana Blush Sticks which look so similar to these, but once you experience the formula you can see why. These have to be the most creamy and pigmented blushes I’ve tried that are budget-friendly.

I have three shades in my own stash.

  • Mixed Berry Sorbet: mauve with pink undertones
  • Strawberry Sorbet: medium nude pink
  • Watermelon Sorbet: hot pink

As you can see from the swatches above, these apply completely opaque, and with hardly ANY pressure needed. The formula is very soft and creamy, gliding onto the skin much more easily than other blush sticks I’ve tried. A little goes a long long way, so it can be easy to put on too much. But even when applied with a heavy hand, these are easy to blend and can soften up for a more subtle finish that resembles a stain.

I typically apply these by dotting them onto my cheekbones and using a stipple or duo fiber brush to blend them out. If I want a more dramatic look, I’ll repeat the process twice to layer the product. I find that alone, they’ll last about six hours before they start to fade, and then you’re left with a very slight tintβ€” or stainβ€” on the face. They do make for a great base for powder blushes, helping them last around 8 or more hours.

  1. I did a haul of City Cosmetics when they had a sale – a lot of great, affordable products! I love the way Strawberry Sorbet looks, and Mixed Berry is really cool, too. I like cream blushes for their natural ‘stained’ look, too.

  2. I’m such a fan of cream blushes that these look very interesting to me. I also dot on tubes like this and then blend.

  3. I have always enjoyed the City Color Products I have tried. I love finding great products at a bargain price! Great review πŸ™‚
