e.l.f. Beauty Shield Skin Care Collection Review
Have you been in the loop with e.l.f. recently? The brand’s not messing around with their latest skincare launch: the e.l.f. Beauty Shield collection.
The new line consists of seven products, six of which I’ve been testing out for the last couple weeks. Beauty Shield is supposed to help revive and protect your skin from environmental stresses with the feature ingredients Vitamin C and Pomegranate Extract. The products are lightweight yet pack a powerful punch in protective and restoring properties like antioxidants and high SPF.
This line is also one of their higher priced collection of products. With items ranging from $8-$24, the brand is definitely pushing the limit on their budget-friendly roots. However, the vanity-worthy packaging and excellent formulas definitely justify the price.
Keep reading for a run down of the entire collection, and watch the video above for a more in-depth look.
1 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ Dual Defense Cleansing Facial Brush ($8)
A major step up from the original cleansing brush the brand released at the conception of their skin care line, this facial brush is actually one I can see myself using. One one end, you have a brush that incorporates both soft bristles and silicone tips to get a deep clean. The silicone bristles help massage the skin and work up a lather. On the other end, the handle is shaped like a scoop to help you dig into jar containers without worrying about contamination. Note that the brush head is not removable, so once the bristles become worn you will have to repurchase the unit itself.
2 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ Vitamin C Pollution Prevention Serum ($16)
This product redefined what “serum” means to me. This incredibly lightweight formula sinks into the skin incredibly quickly, with no film or heavy residue left behind. It aims at evening out and brightening skin tone while reducing the appearance of fine lines. The antioxidants and vitamins help protect the effects of the environment on the skin. I love the dropper applicator— you can really see the thought the brand put into with this particular packaging.
3 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ SPF 50 Skin Shielding Moisturizer ($12)
One of the things I appreciate most about this line is the SPF products— this moisturizer packs a whopping SPF 50! Made with Carrot Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil and Vitamin C, it hydrates the skin and adds a slight radiance without feeling heavy in the slightest. My combo skin can be sensitive to products that contain a lot of oil, and this doesn’t bother me at all. It contains a “universal tint” that they claim will blend into any skin tone. Luckily, it’s very close to my own skin tone and I feel that it adds a light coverage to help even everything out.
4 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ SPF 50 Skin Shielding Primer ($12)
Probably my favorite and most-used product out of this line, the primer rocks. Period. I really notice my foundation wear time being extended when using this product. It is a silicone formula and also contains the same “universal tint” as the moisturizer— though I feel it’s stronger in the primer. It adds noticeable coverage which helps cover my problem areas. It also acts as a backup layer if my foundation starts to fade. My face products blend super smoothly on top of it and noticeably last longer— there’s even more makeup on my cleansing wipes at the end of the day now.
5 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ Daily Defense Makeup Mist ($8)
This is the one product I haven’t tried, so I can’t offer my thoughts on it. However, the Daily Defense Makeup Mist is supposed to contain they same key antioxidants plus Vitamin E and Licorice Extract for a refreshing pick-me-up. The mist can help you refresh the look of makeup throughout the day and give your skin a boost after a workout or flight.
6 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ Magnetic Mask Kit ($24)
This is probably the most-hyped product of the launch, and for good reason. This magnetic mask goes on like a normal face mask, but gets pulled off with a powerful magnet leaving no residue behind. Watch the video to see how it works— it’s incredible! This is one of the few skin care products where I can feel an immediate difference after using. The magnet removal process is supposed to lift impurities off your face, and I was left with the smoothest and softest skin ever. I couldn’t stop touching my face. It’s great for your nighttime routine, but I actually like using this in the morning as a makeup prep step to create a smooth base for my products.
7 | e.l.f. Beauty Shield™ Massaging Overnight Recovery Cream ($14)
I’ve been using this night cream for a few weeks now, and even though its formula is super lightweight, my skin is very happy with it. Living in the desert, I thought I’d need more but it’s just the right amount of moisture with Argan Oil and Carrot Seed Oil to hydrate and antioxidants and Vitamin C to tone and protect. The rollerball applicator helps massage the face to help with absorption. They feel good on the cheeks, though I don’t care for them around the forehead. Sometimes I’ll even dispense the moisturizer into my hand and put it on the old fashioned way.
Overall, I’m incredibly impressed with the e.l.f. Beauty Shield collection. Each product worked well for me, and they come together to create a really cohesive routine. Especially for summer, the lightweight formulas will work well to moisturize and protect without weighing you down or making you shiny. Again, the only downside I see out of this entire line is the fact that the brand’s prices are rising. However, compared to prestige products that claim to do the same thing, they are still a bargain.
