Best BB Cream for Oily Skin: Covergirl Clean Matte
It can be a bit tricky to find the perfect summer foundation for your skin, especially for oily skin types. Longer days, rising temps, and social calendars that involve being out in the sun may call for a switch up to your normal makeup routine. Personally, I prefer to wear lighter face makeup in the summer because I can’t stand the feeling of a caked face with the intense desert sun beating down. But, that’s easier said than done when you have oily or combo skin, acne and hyper-pigmentation. Most BB creams are just not made for me. They’re either too dewy, or don’t provide enough coverage.
In all my years of testing out beauty products, there has been one— ONE— BB cream that works for me and works extremely well: The Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream for Oily Skin. In fact, the whole Clean Matte line is pretty much made for me: it’s non-acnegenic and won’t clog pores, and the matte finish is enough to keep my t-zone from getting shiny, but doesn’t feel dry on the rest of my face.
I 100% dub the Clean Matte BB Cream the best BB cream for oily skin in summer. It’s super lightweight with an incredibly natural looking finish that looks like real skin, but gives enough coverage to actually hide blemishes and dark spots. The coverage is buildable, and most days I’ll just dot a little extra on top of stubborn or especially red spots without needing concealer. It’s a 3-in-1 formula with built-in primer properties which means less layering of product when your skin just wants to breathe! The lasting power is pretty comparable to other BB creams— I can get about 6 hours of wear before the coverage begins to fade.
This is a great formula for combo and oily skin, and probably normal if you don’t mind a drier finish. It’s oil-free and keeps shine away for hours, even in the heat. If you have dry skin, it’s a bit of a toss up. I have dry areas on my skin and I never feel like this formula accentuates them or feels uncomfortable… so you may just need to test it out for yourself. It doesn’t create a tight feeling on me, which I am super sensitive to, so that’s a major plus in my book!
The only downside to this BB cream is the shade selection, which is pretty sparse. The brand recommends picking a shade based on the undertone that you would like to neutralize in the skin rather than picking a shade that exactly matches. I will say that while 530 Light/Medium is a good match for me, I’ve gone a shade deeper and was still able to blend out to match my neck pretty easily.
Even when I wear a full face of glam makeup during summer, the Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream is usually what’s on my skin to help lighten the feel of everything. It performs like some of my favorite foundations with the comfort and breathability that I need during summer.
