NYC Lovatics by Demi Cheek & Lip Tint Review
As a beauty blogger, it’s easy to just go through the motions of testing and reviewing the latest beauty products. Because I’m exposed to so much makeup, I will admit that my bar is set a bit higher and it takes a little extra something to impress me. But, when I tried the NYC Lovatics by Demi Lip & Cheek Tint, I was genuinely impressed.
The Lovatics by Demi Lip & Cheek Tint is part of Demi Lovato’s line for NYC, and is one of the collection’s highlights alongside her eyeshadow palette, which I reviewed last month. There are currently four tint shades available: Cheeky Pink, Cheeky Red, Cheeky Strawberry, and Cheeky Berry.
Cheeky Pink is what I would consider a Barbie pink shade, Cheeky Red leans a little more orange on my skin tone but is still a pretty flush, Cheeky Strawberry is the most subtle of the four with a mauve appearance, and Cheeky Berry is the most dramatic with a deeper purple undertone.
I was pretty surprised at the pigmentation of these, especially considering they’re called a tint (usually codeword for sheer as heck). You can dab it on lightly and blend out for a super subtle look, or you can build it up like in the swatches above for more of a pop. While I do experience some fading throughout the day, the color is still noticeable after a full eight hours, which is what had me reaching for these practically every day the past few months. I love that I can work them into both natural and more “done” makeup because they’re so buildable and versatile.
The formula took a little getting used to, because they’re very watery. The applicator is a brush— almost like a nail polish brush— that you can sweep onto the cheeks or lips.
For the cheeks, I tend to dab it on or even draw small circles on the apples, and then use my fingers to blend. However, I found out that you have to blend these into the skin literally right after applying, because they set very quickly and you don’t want to be left with a streaky stain. Because of this, I typically do one cheek at a time, start to finish.
While I primarily use these as cheek tints, I have applied them to the lips a handful of times for a hint of color. I don’t really like the fact that you’re going from lips to face with the same applicator, which is why I stick to using it one way, but they can add a pretty stain on the lips that’s nice when you don’t want to go full on color.
Overall, I think these little tints are powerhouses and are super easy to use for all day color. I’m really excited to see how much Demi’s collection expands and if they’ll be adding more shades to this line, because I really think NYC hit a home run with them!
You can find the NYC Lovatics by Demi Lip & Cheek Tint for around $3.50 at local drugstores.
