5 Bright Makeup Shades to Rock This Spring
Guest Post by Angie Canning, Founder & Editor, VanityRouge
Spring is finally here, and it’s time to pull out some bright colors for eyes, cheeks, lips & nails to celebrate!
Hi Slashed Beauty readers, my name is Angie Canning, Editor over at VanityRouge, and today I’m excited to share with you some of my favorite bright colors to rock for spring. Even if you are a “neutrals” kind of gal, adding a little color here and there can be good for the soul and a great way to start the season out right! Are you a corals type of girl? Or how about a hot pink? Have you dared to wear sapphire blue on the eyes or a rainbow for the nails? Here are a few budget-friendly picks to get you spring-inspired. Let’s do this!
//CORAL ON THE LIPS//
Bright lips are a great way to put a little spring in your step, and the Maybelline ColorSensational Lipsticks are my favorite budget-buy lipstick by far! Ultra creamy and pigmented, I am especially in love with the latest Rebel Bloom collection for spring. Coral Burst is that perfect punch of color for the lips and happens to be my go-to color when I need a little pick-me-up!
Makeup Tip: Let those lips get all the attention today! When wearing a bold lip in the spring and summer I love to apply a long-lasting cream eye shadow in the same shade as my skintone then apply a black liquid or gel liner with a simple flick, curl my lashes and apply two coats of mascara for a sweet spring look.
//HOT PINK FOR CHEEKS//
Could anything be more cheery than hot pink on the cheeks? NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Hot Pink is not only a pretty shade to get a spring flush, but it is ultra-pigmented so you really get bang for your buck.
Makeup Tip: For a beautiful spring flush, layer your cream blush and apply a powder blush on top – this not only sets the blush, but gives it extra longevity, especially if you live in a humid climate or have oily skin.
//SAPPHIRE & VIOLET FOR THE EYES//
If you aren’t quite bold enough to go with a bright eyeshadow all over the lids to celebrate, why not add a little fun at the lash line? The NYX Glam Liner Aqua Lux in Glam Purple is a shimmery violet that looks fun peeking out behind curled lashes, and the tip is precise if you want to add a little wing. Plus, the shade is so unique with its duochrome finish.
Is blue more you? Rimmel London’s new ScandalEyes Kate Eye Shadow Stick in Electric Sapphire can be used all over the lids and blended out to go bold or just applied at the lash line (top or bottom) for a fun pop of blue!
Makeup Tip: When adding bold color to the lash line, keep the lids simple by using a color similar to your skin tone all over the lid, and then define the crease with a matte eyeshadow (or bronzer!) two shades darker in the crease to softly define. Next, add the pop of color at the lash line, add mascara to the lashes, and you are set to rock that color any time of day!
//PARTY ON THE NAILS//
Checking out all of those bright spring nail collections from higher end brands can be fun, but what if you fall in love with more than one shade… or the whole collection? This is why I love brands like OPI offer some of their collections in mini sizes as well! This Little Hulas Mini Nail Lacquers Collection from OPI featuring their Hawaii Collection is budget friendly and you get a fun way to splash a little color on tips & toes – use them all for fun nail art, experiment with a gradient or choose one shade for tips and another for toes.
Nail Tip: These minis are not only cute, but the pint-size brush is perfect for getting those bitty toes, making pedicures a breeze! They are also perfect for travel, especially if you want to change up your manicure mid-trip – did someone say poolside pedis?!
So what’s it’ going to be? Coral on the lips? Sapphire on the eyes? Party on the nails? I’d love to know how you are going to step into spring with some bold color to celebrate!

I’m so in love with all the bright corals, pinks, violets and aquas for spring. They’re a nice counterpoint to all the neutrals.
Totally! I love wearing bright lips with a neutral eye.
OH MY GAWD … I need the Rimmel crayon, the Maybelline lipstick, and the NYX blush! Yes!! Thank you 😀 (I’m taking this post with me to the drugstore hehe)
Maybelline makes amazing bright lipsticks!! Their Vivids collection is also on point for spring and summer.
I love brights! I’ve never tried those NYX liners, but I guess I need to check them out.
I love all the spring tips, Angie! Coral lips are super fun but that blue eyeshadow stick caught my eye, need to find it ASAP!
Ah yes! I love blues to make my brown eyes pop!
