So MELTY! ColourPop So Juicy Plumping Gloss Balm Review

We are still deep in our shiny lip phase, and ColourPop is giving us a new option to get the look and nourishing benefits at the same time. The new ColourPop So Juicy Plumping Gloss Balm with Peptides not only give the lips a wash of gleaming color, but hydrates and plumps.

These 3-in-1 balm, gloss and plumpers come in click-up pen tubes. While they look solid in the packaging, these melt into a glossy texture as soon as they touch your lips.

The color is buildable, though they’re most comfortable when applied in a thinner layer so the product doesn’t slip around– or outside of– the lips. The formula is never sticky or drying, and the peppermint cookie scent is noticable but not overwhelming.

While these are called “plumping,” don’t let that scare you off– these are not the kind of lip plumpers that sting and burn. In fact, these generate what feels like a cooling effect on the lips with a very gentle tingle. Instead of plumping your lips with inflammation, this is creating the results using hyaluronic acid, ceramides and peptides that soften the look of lip lines.

You can see above how differently the colors translate swatched on the arm versus the lips. Because they are slightly sheer, your natural lip color will impact the final look.

Because of the glossy finish, these aren’t exactly long-wearing. They will transfer, and may smear while eating. While they don’t feel like your typical lip gloss, but the performance is similar in that regard.

One complaint I have is that all of my gloss balms have huge air bubbles in the product. This irks me because it seems like I’m not getting the full amount of product, and I’m not sure what’s going to happen when I click the pen up enough to reach one of the bubbles (will only half come out?). Time will tell, though it shouldn’t too long to find out because these melt down quite quickly after even one swipe. I often have to click up product before each application.

I’ve been preferring the ColourPop So Juicy Gloss Balms to lipsticks, lip oils, and lip glosses recently as I find they’re a happy medium between color payoff, shine and comfort. You can find them on the brand’s website for $10, or select shades at Ulta Beauty and Target.
