Katy Perry x COVERGIRL Katy Kat Palettes Review
Katy Perry may just be one of the most iconic COVERGIRL faces yet, and her makeup line with the brand isn’t slowing down any time soon. I always find a few more favorites with every launch, including this time around. The Katy Kat Palettes are the first powder shadow products in the Katy Kat Collection, and I’m sort of living for them.
They released two Katy Kat Palettes in the Spring 2018 release, both with 10 shades in small and sleek compacts. The ten shades are broken up into two halves that can give you a complete look, but feel free to mix & match! The fifth shade on each side is shaped like a cat head, with an embossed kitty face in the shadow. doesn’t get cuter than that!
Both palettes have a mix of shimmer, satin and matte shades which I appreciate. I did notice that across the board, the shadow is really soft so you’ve gotta be careful digging your brush into the pans. It’s easy to kick up a little powder in the pan as well, so just be delicate!
Cool Kat is for the beauties who love rocking color. It does lean more on the pastel side, but we have a great mix of deep hues to add dimension. In this palette, the satin shades definitely take the stage with the best pigmentation and smoothness. Though, all of them blend really easily and can be built up to have stronger color payoff. I absolutely love the middle shades on each side, which are super buttery. The blue on the left is also gorgeous— and keeps its hue even through blending. Some drugstore blues turn into a grayish shade when blending, but this one stays rich. Since none of the shades are extremely bright, I think this palette is great if you want to start working more color into your routine in a wearable way.
Hot Kat is for those neutral lovers. We have all the must-have shades for your transition, lid, crease and highlight— even a dark black you can use to line and shade with! I felt that the Hot Kat palette had much better pigmentation across the board with all of their shade finishes, and there were a few more mattes to play with as well. I absolutely love how these perform, and can see myself traveling with this palette a lot. However, if you already have your staple neutral shadows, this may not add a lot you don’t already have.
Here’s a look I created using Cool Kat— an 80s inspired look I posted to my Instagram last week. I was definitely inspired by the shades in the palette and love how this turned out! I paired it with the new Katy Kat Gloss in Catnip.
These are popping up in drugstores slowly but surely, so keep your eyes out! You can’t find them online yet, but I’ll update this post when I find them for sale. They’re supposed to be retailing for $12.99— a little pricey in my opinion. I’d suggest buying them during a sale if you’re interested. I wouldn’t classify them as ASAP-Must-Haves, but they’re fun additions to your collection if you don’t have similar shades already!
