What I Use to Get Flowy, Voluminous & Wavy Hair

Sponsored post by Mirum Shopper. All opinons my own.

Can I just express how thankful I am that full, voluminous waves are in style this season? It’s finally my mane’s time to shine! Of course, having naturally thick hair doesn’t necessarily mean that it always has the body or definition I want. A few weeks ago I talked about getting weightless waves with some “splurge” items, but the fact of the matter is, you can recreate the look even with affordable products that you can pick up on your next trip to Kroger.

With traditional methods of achieving voluminous textured waves, such as sea salt sprays or dry shampoo, I get the shape I want but at the expense of the shine and flowyness that I like in my hair. Must one look really be a trade off for another?

Well, the answer to that question is no. Remember these oldies but goodies? I discovered the Suave Sea Mineral Infusion Moisturizing Body Shampoo & Conditioner about three years ago when I was picked to blind-test the products and share my thoughts. All this time later, I just recently started using them again. I forgot how much this stuff rocks when I want voluminous, beachy waves but with a light and airy feel… and enough moisture to keep it looking and feeling healthy and shiny.

My wavy hair loves this shampoo and conditioner— they really helps accentuate my waves’ natural shape while adding volume to my overall style. With no heavy silicones, the duo leaves my hair light and free of buildup. Even though the label says they’re meant for normal to fine hair, I find the gentle formula to work well with my picky thick hair. The duo leaves enough moisture to feel hydrated, with enough texture for easy waves that last without falling after a few hours.

Using a diffuser to blow dry your hair after your shower will help define the waves and add an extra boost of volume. Lifting your hair at the ends with the diffuser and holding for a few seconds will form your waves, and occasionally massaging your scalp with the diffuser teeth will add lift at your roots for body. If you need a little extra help, you can run a curling iron through your hair working in larger sections to add more waves. (Don’t forget to use a heat protectant if heat styling!)

I finish the style with a very light mist of the classic TRESemme Extra Hold Hairspray. It protects my waves from frizzing up and losing their cool in humidity, and gives my style a great hold while leaving my hair touchable and soft.
