4 Reasons Why You Should Use Reusable Makeup Remover Cloths
For years, my favorite method to take off my makeup has been using remover wipes. I swore by one brand’s towelettes because my eyes would get irritated if I used anything else. However, I started to notice that they weren’t getting all of the makeup off. Sometimes I would use one before a shower, only to find myself with raccoon eyes afterward because of the eyeliner and mascara residue left behind. Furthermore, makeup remover wipes were running me anywhere between five and eight dollars for a 30-pack. Granted, I was only paying this about once a month— but that adds up!
Luckily, there’s a solution for those of us who want something gentle, efficient and cost effective: the reusable makeup remover cloth. For the past month, I’ve been using the BSL Natural Makeup Cloth. This unique cleansing cloth is soft on skin and tough on makeup. The antibacterial fabric consists of dense, wedge-shaped microfibers that pick up oil, dirt and makeup by just adding water. It also works to refine and improve the texture of skin by removing dead skin cells. The benefits have won me over, and I don’t think I’ll be turning back any time soon.
1. They Work Better
When it comes right down to it, I’ve experienced less makeup residue left on my face after using the makeup cloths— specifically eye makeup. They really do pick up every bit of my eyeliner and mascara, and I’m never left with raccoon eyes after showers or the morning after. I still like to follow up with a cleanser for acne treatment, and that also helps get any last traces of face makeup that might remain.

Although I wouldn’t say I have sensitive skin, the areas around my eyes react poorly to many makeup removers. Whether it’s a high concentration of chemicals or the mere presence of alcohol, there are a lot of ingredients in makeup remover wipes that can prevent you from achieving a great complexion. I don’t have to worry about irritating my skin with these reusable cloths, and I have smoother skin to show for it.
3. Environmentally Friendly
Since you’re able to use one cloth over and over again, you’re going to reduce your waste significantly. Also, it only needs water to help achieve a squeaky clean face, so you won’t be letting any unnecessary chemicals rinse down your drain.
4. Cost Effective
The BSL Natural Makeup Cloth is said to last six months, and they come in a pack of 3 for $20. That’s eighteen months of makeup removing power! Compare this to the $90+ I would spend in that time on regular makeup wipes… hello savings!
It does take me a little extra time using the microfiber cloth, because I like to work on one area at a time to make sure I’ve picked up all of my makeup. After each use, I rinse the cloth with liquid hand soap, and I wash it in the weekly laundry to keep it clean. I never have to worry about running low, or accidentally leaving a seal open on packaging. Overall, it’s been much more convenient than using wipes.

Did you find them to also slightly exfoliate your skin? Interesting concept, especially for those who are sensitive to chemicals.
Yes, I do find them to exfoliate (obviously not as harshly as a scrub) but they still leave my skin very smooth! I’ve loved them so far.

These remind me of the Norwex makeup removing clothes. They work the same way… and I think they were around $18 for 3. Great for travel, because you don’t have to bring liquids. My hubby likes them just to cleanse his face because they are quick and no fuss. They work just fine with water since they are antibacterial. Seriously soooo cool! Does all the makeup come off in the laundry? I would definitely use a reusable makeup remover! I didn’t know there was such a thing! It kinda looks like a microfiber cloth, like the kind I use for cleaning my house.. is it?
Hmm I’ve never heard of microfiber cleaning clothes for the home but it’s about double the thickness of the kind you use to clean glasses/computer screens!

This sounds like a great idea but it also concerns me that they are reusable. I just think about the bacteria and dirt your transferring back to your face over and over again. If you wash it out with soap and water before the next use how is it different from your normal face cloth? I would love to see a follow up with a cleansing cloth to see how much is left on your face with these cloths vs a cleansing cloth for someone with sensitive skin.
They are antibacterial, and visually hold less makeup than even my makeup brushes after being spot cleaned. Because of the wedges on the microfiber, the cloth lifts the dirt, oil, and skin cells instead of just spreading it around.

I’ve been using MU remover wipes when I’m particularly lazy, but it’d be nice to have something reusable!

great idea. I use a wash cloth or konjac sponge or my foreo luna for my face. for my eyes i use cotton rounds with makeup remover on them.

I use a facial brush + Decleor cleanser to get my makeup off. I like it rough! So I do prefer the more abrasive feel of a brush.
I’ve never been big into cleansing clothes. I’m a soap and washcloth kind of gal. But, definitely intriguing. Especially since these are reusable.
This idea sounds great and extremely eco-friendly! I’d love to find them despite make-up wipes are something I just usewhen I’m in a hurry or I’m tired (I often use creamy cleansers or olive oil…) 🙂

I will admit these take a little extra time than the wipes but I still think it’s better to use because your skin is actually getting clean with no residue! Yes, I rinse them with the soap and hot water and almost all the makeup comes off instantly when I rub the cloth between my hands. At most, a little bit of darkness will stay where I took off a lot of eyeliner, but throwing it in the laundry will get it squeaky clean– just always clean on HOT because that’s what spaces out the fibers to release the makeup. These look interesting! My skin has been happy since I switched to using my Washi Cloths and Clinique Take the Day off balm, rather than makeup wipes!
I have to admit that using disposable wipes is expensive.
It’s true!! Even though $5 every month doesn’t seem like a lot at first, it adds up sooo quickly, depending on how often you’re using them. (Esp. for us bbloggers, who have to swatch constantly!)

I would have to have enough that I could use one once, toss it in the laundry so that it could run through the wash with hot water, detergent and bleach before being used, again. I get squicked out at the thought of old makeup, bacteria getting smeared all over my face, night after night. One reason why I use disposable makeup wipes. They are clean and sanitary. 😀

I don’t use makeup remover wipes all the time. For myself I use cotton balls with Bioderma makeup remover, if I am wearing heavy set makeup and it is gentle. For my skin which is dry and sensitive am very careful with rubbing and this is what you’d need to do if you are using a cloth to get all the debris and makeup. It is a cool idea though.

I’ll be honest, I don’t use waterproof mascara anymore so I haven’t tested it out on that! BUT I did read an article on The Beauty Department about taking off waterproof eye makeup where they used this exact cloth plus coconut oil and it worked for them! Wow. IN A HEARTBEAT I would ditch my wipes for this. I can’t find wipes that work for me at all. I use Cleanse by Lauren Napier, and they are great and don’t irritate my skin but nothing ever takes off my eye makeup as well as eye makeup remover after my shower!
Miranda, I am convinced. I am going to try this. I have blepharitis (dry, red, sensitive skin on my eyelids and crease), and so many removal products make it worse. I love the no chemical idea and the fact that I could wash it in the laundry. Yay!
