Getting Fit for Our Wedding with Jenny Craig
With the wedding coming up this year, both Adam and I have decided to buckle down and get fit again. Three years ago, Adam and I booked a Caribbean vacation and used it as motivation to lose weight. Both of us followed an extremely limited and clean diet; I spent six mornings a week in the gym while he did weights at home. I lost over 30 pounds, he dropped 45! It was the most in control I’ve felt about my health in my entire life, and I felt comfortable in my own body for the very first time.
Well, after we returned, our diets started to slip. I wasn’t as strict about counting calories, and daily workouts turned into weekly ones. Now, here I am, 15 pounds up totally annoyed with myself because I can’t fit into my favorite clothes. Adam gained back his weight as well for similar reasons— new desk job and not watching what he ate. We’ve got 10 months until the wedding, and it’s time to make some changes!
I think since we have quite a bit of time before the big day, we’ll be able to adopt a lifestyle change that can stick rather than just “going on a diet”. So to lose the weight we gained, we’re really hitting the ground running this month with two big changes.
One, I enrolled myself in a fitness bootcamp that meets three days a week for total-body workouts. This way, I’m held accountable by a coach and classmates and I’m less likely to push it off or skip days. Adam is getting more active at home with jumprope, weights and an ab roller.
Second, we’re going on a Jenny Craig plan for one month. Jenny Craig is a weight-loss program that provides structure and support to help people lose weight and learn how to keep it off. It focuses on food, body and mind for a holistic approach to weight loss for long lasting results.
One of the things we love about Jenny Craig is that they give you real, delicious food (over 100 premium menu items) in healthy portions. Not only that, but you actually get to eat six times a day. That’s right: we’re eating more food, and losing weight. The meal plans are designed to boost your metabolism and avoid over-eating out of hunger, all while still eating a controlled amount of calories. I am thrilled that I don’t have to really think about it: we get our menu each week after meeting with our consultant, and follow it with the food they give us. No counting or weighing.
I’m really glad Adam’s doing the program with me— I think it’s a lot easier to lose weight when you’re doing it with a partner, especially if you’re living together. Since we’re both sticking to the meal plan, there’s less temptation around the house. We also go in as a couple for our consultations, where we discuss our week’s progress and how to self-monitor throughout the week with good decisions. We go over any challenges from the previous week and figure out a solution to make the next week even easier. Our consultant also keeps tracks of our success with weekly weigh-ins. For members that don’t live near a center, though, they also offer one-on-one support through consultations via phone or video chat.
Another thing that’s great about the program is that we can work in other homemade foods that are healthy. Our consultant gave us great ideas about mixing Jenny Craig meals with our favorite homemade veggie dishes. This helps add variety and freshness to the mix.
We’ll be staying on the program for a month to jumpstart our weight loss, and then use what we’ve learned from the meal plans and our consultant to keep the weight off for the wedding— and beyond!
After we’re done, I’ll be sure to check in with you all to show how much weight we lose! After one week, I’m already down 2.5 lbs!
Have you ever done a weight loss program like Jenny Craig?
Results not typical. Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of CLEVER.
Good luck with your weight loss journey! Changing your eating habits can be the hardest thing to do.
Glad this is working for you! I need to get back to working out four days a week.
I need to get back into the eating 6 times a day habit! You’re doing great!
I’m so glad that it’s working for you.
This is awesome I’m curious about how it works! I did Medifast – I signed up two days before I got engaged (unbeknownst to me!) and I went from an 18 to an 8 for my wedding. I’m not proud to be back at an 18 post-partum :/
You sound so motivated and Jenny Craig is a good plan.
Keep up the good work!
