Twisted Topknot Hair Tutorial

I love throwing my hair into a top knot— it’s so low maintenance, keeping your hair out of your face and out of mind. But I will admit, when you rock the hairstyle as regularly as I do, you tend to get a little bored while till needing convenience while getting ready in the morning. So I’ve been trying to find ways to put a twist on my top knot to make things more interesting while still keeping it quick.

Well, I literally tried putting twists in my topknot and ended up with a style I really liked! I think it adds an element of elegance without too much effort. You can dress this hairstyle up for work or a party, or keep it casual like I have been wearing it for day to day activities.

Another awesome think about this twisted topknot hairstyle is that you don’t need a lot of supplies to get the look, just a few trusty staples. I picked up the must-haves for this ‘do from Goody on my last run to target— all you’ll need is a brush, some elastics, and bobby pins.

Since the twisted topknot can sometimes have a “messy bun” appearance, making sure the rest of your hair is brushed through and looking healthy is important. You may remember me talking about the Goody Clean Radiance Brush a couple months ago… I’ve loved the copper bristles for reducing my buildup and balancing my hair’s natural moisture, making my hair look great and ready for any style. I start out this look by brushing through and gathering my hair at the top of my head, making sure there are no bumps or missed strands.

After your ponytail is made, separate it into four equal sections. Taking one section at a time, twist the section clockwise. You can keep the twist either tight or loose depending on your hair texture and what you think will hold better. Take the twisted section and wrap it clockwise around the base of the ponytail. Secure the twist with bobby pins you trust will keep your hair in place— for me, this is the Goody Stay Tight Bobbies. Repeat the process with the remaining sections of hair, laying the twists in any way you think looks good.
