Physicians Formula Eye Booster Kit: Lash Extensions on a Budget

Thank you to Physicians Formula and Her Campus Media for partnering on this post!

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul… and your lashes are the decorative curtains! Mascara is the one step in my makeup routine that I cannot bear to skip. Even when I’m wearing no other products, I usually curl my lashes and slap some mascara on to look more awake and feel more polished.

Lash extensions have been really popular lately, and I admit that I love the look of them. They’re so lush, you really don’t need to apply mascara over them at all. They can also last for months, which in turn saves you a ton of accumulated time in your makeup routine. But they have their downsidesβ€” one of the biggest being cost. You can spend up to $500 on a good set of lash extensions. There’s also the fact that they’re adhered to your lash line using glue, which some people are a little irked about getting near their eyes. With all that in mind, I’d much rather stick to my drugstore mascara.

Speaking of drugstore mascara, Physicians Formula just released their Eye Booster Instant Lash Extension Kit, which gives you all the drama with much less risk. You may be familiar with these types of two-part kits, but this is the first I’ve seen in the drugstore, and I was extremely curious about the effect it would have on my lashes.

The kit comes with Lash Boosting mascara, which actually works pretty damn well all on its own. It’s a thicker formula, but surprisingly does not clump at all and adds both length and volume to bare lashes. The brush is dense and has a slightly curved shape that helps lift the lashes. Applying this is the first step of the eye-boosting process.

Next comes the all-natural Lash Extensions, which are made with botanical extracts and vitamin E, and have been ophthalmologist approved. These little fuzzies stick to the wet mascara and make your lashes appear way thicker and longer.

The very first time applying these, I made the mistake of doing the whole process after I had done my face makeup. WRONG! When working with these fibers, you’ve got to expect a little fall out. Tapping the wand off on a paper towel before applying helps, but your routine will just be a lot smoother if you do foundation afterwords so you can wipe away fall out (and it does wipe/brush away easily).

Another pro tip: I suggest doing the whole process on one eye at a time so the mascara is still wet enough for the fibers to stick to.

After applying the fibers, you smooth them out and lock them in with a last coat of the mascara. I’m left with the most dramatic lashes I’ve ever gotten from a drugstore product!

Alright, so let’s see some before and afters, shall we?

So, the difference is cray right? At first, I thought ain’t nobody got time for a three step process in the morning… but honestly it took two minutes and the results are so worth it. My eyes look so much bigger, and considering I suck at putting on falsies, this kit will for sure be a go-to when I want to bring the drama.

These types of fiber mascara kits usually cost like $30-$50, but the Physicians Formula Eye Booster Lash Extension Kit is only about $14.95 at Walmart and other beauty retailers nationwide. In Canada, you can pick it up at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Have you ever thought of getting lash extensions?

  1. This is a crazy good mascara. I like the picture with one eye done and one eye not πŸ˜€

  2. I’ve heard great things about this mascara, and it’s certainly cheaper than some of the specialty fiber mascaras. I might check this out when they have another sale, because I’d probably do this instead of falsies for a glammed look.

  3. These made your lashes look like falsies. I’ve looked for it at CVS but I haven’t found it there.

  4. How was the wear time? Did you find it smudges on you? I am having a hard time finding one that doesn’t smudge under my eyes within an hour or so! And I don’t even put mascara on my lower lashes!

    1. I didn’t find it smudging under my lash line at all. I put the mascara on the bottom lashes without fibers and had no problems πŸ™‚

  5. Oh wow! Your lashes look amazing! I’m usually an eyes first girl so I won’t have to worry about the fall out problem.

  6. I like the fiber lash look, and I agree it’s easier than fooling with lashes even though I love them hehe. I didn’t know this was a thing from PF, gonna check it out!

  7. Your lashes look so long. I’ve tried fiber products before and was not impressed, but I may have to rethink that after seeing this review.

    1. This kit is great! The mascara alone works so well, I’m even wearing it alone today for a more subtle look.

  8. Wow, this is amazing Miranda!!! What an effect. I’ve used products like this that cost way more money than this – I need this in my arsenal!

    1. Right!? It’s such a deal!! And other kits you have to use your own mascara anyway and they still charge a ton!
