There’s a new drugstore lipstick getting all the attention recently, and while I’m a little late to the game, I’m glad I’m here. The new Wet n Wild Megalast Matte Lipsticks are only $2.99, but you wouldn’t know it by just looking at them.
These lipsticks are cruelty free and fragrance free, and include all the following lip-loving ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Natural Marine Plant Extracts, Coenzyme Q10, Vitamins A & E, Murumuru Seed Butter, Argan Oil, and Sunflower and Passionfruit Seed Oils. They’re extremely creamy— moisturizing, even.

Come through, pigment! In just one swipe, you get full coverage, opaque color over the lips. Even they they drench your lips in color, the formula feels super lightweight on the lips and comfortable to wear all day. They don’t feel dry on the lips, nor do my lips feel like they’re becoming dry with time when wearing these lipsticks.
With that said, one of my main gripes about the Megalast Matte Lipstick is that the finish doesn’t really look matte at all. You can tell in some of the swatches above that they do retain quite a bit of shine, though they’re not glossy. In a matte lipstick, I look for something with less of a sheen to it, and most of these just translate as a satin finish at best. I don’t mind it at all, I think it’s pretty and flattering, but it may not be what you expect when you hear Matte in the name.
My other complaint about these lipsticks is that, even though the formula isn’t dry, the bullet itself tugs at the lips when applying. It’s quite the anomaly, but for some reason I got skipping toward the lip lines due to it dragging a bit.
However, one major plus that I love about the Megalast Matte Lipsticks is that they look so smooth and even, even when my lips are slightly chapped. When I was swatching and taking these photos, I had a few dry patches on my bottom lip that I hadn’t exfoliated off. I was able to apply these lipsticks right over without calling attention to them or having pigment gather unevenly.
Finally, let’s talk about lasting power. With a name like “megalast,” I’ll admit I expected a bit more from these. The bright and bold shades (Cherry Picking, Red Velvet, Stoplight Red, Sexpot Red, Cinnamon Spice & Cherry Bomb) will leave a stain behind and so when the lipstick wears off, you’ll still have color in that area for less noticeable wear. The other shades wear in the inner portion of the lips after eating or drinking and will probably need to be reapplied. None of them are transfer-proof or completely smudge proof.
When all is said and considered, for $2.99, the Wet n Wild Megalast Matte Lipsticks are definitely going to become a drugstore staple, but you just have to know what to expect! If you prefer a glossy lip, check out the Wet n Wild Megalast High-Shine Lipsticks in my post here.

I’m not new to the game and I worked for Estee Lauder cosmetics for many years. I started buying wet and wild when my twins started college and I stop working full time my favorite color has always been don’t blink pink but I don’t see it on this list here. I’ve worn several other shades but that’s my favorite

I noticed the shine in the matte colors too. However if I pressed a tissue / Kleenex on my lips then pulled the tissue off it removed the shine and was matte on me. Do try it if you haven’t. Hopefully I described that “How To” right. It’s something my mom would always do after applying lipstick.
