Review & Swatches: Jordana Color Tint Blush Sticks

Cream blushes are becoming more prominent among drugstore brands, and I ain’t even mad. Especially good to use for the fresh and dewy face trend, cream blushes tend to give your skin a healthy shine with a dose of color.

Jordana just released six new shades of their Color Tint Blush Sticks for Spring 2015. The new colors offer a more diverse range than their first release, from neutral to bright.

I love when cream blushes are housed in twist-up stick form, because it makes for super convenient application.  The Color Tint Blush Sticks stand about two inches tall, and you’re getting 0.21 oz of product. This is slightly less than the Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Sticks, but with a price tag of $2.99, that’s nothing that you’ll catch me complaining about.

New shades in the collection include (L-R in order of swatches above):

Baby Pink – light pink with lavender undertones and strong shimmer
Sunkissed – this one looks more peach to me!
Golden Sheen – light orangey bronze with subtle shimmer
Peach Nectar – warm coral
Hot, Hot, Hot – bright fuchsia
Rouge Romance – cool red

You can definitely get away with using the shimmery shades as both your blush and highlight.

All shades have strong pigmentation, which was surprising coming from a product that has “tint” in the name. However, they’re not completely opaque as they still let your skin show through a bit. I find it easiest to apply by dabbing onto the cheeks so that I don’t get too much color, because it’s easy to overdo it with this kind of blush.

Don’t be turned off though; the blush glides on smoothly and blends out really easily— I always use my Real Techniques Stippling Brush, but you could also use your fingers to apply and blend. Above, you’ll see Hot, Hot, Hot, blended out to a more wearable look.

The formula is moisturizing and gives your skin that slight dewiness for a bright face. Staying power varies between colors. The lighter ones will fade more quickly than the deeper ones, but overall you can get 4-6 hours… perhaps longer if you set with a powder, or if you have drier skin.

To be honest, I get better wear out of these than I do from the Maybelline Blush Sticks, and at less than half the cost. Another point for Jordana’s spring releases! I’m also glad that the new shades will seemingly work for many different skin tones, since they are so pigmented and they included the deeper red and pink.

All in all, these have been my favorite drugstore cream blushes I’ve tried, due to their color payoff and price. You can generally find these at Walgreens or on the brand’s website.

What’s your favorite way to apply cream blush?

I thought for the price these are fabulous. They last 4 hours on me but longer when I use a powder blush to set. Definitely a good choice if you’re going drugstore for your cream blush!

Wow, so pigmented. They look like lipsticks at full opacity. I’m definitely a stippler when it comes to cream blushes – if I try to dab them on by hand I end up looking like a clown, lol.

These look comparable to Tarte’s cheek stains! I kinda want them. But like those cheek stains, I can never apply them effectively. Ugh, I suck.

I have one of their last collection, and really like it. That lavender shade is on trend for Spring- could be an inexpensive way to see if I like the look on me.

I heard somewhere that cream blushes can really accentuate acne and as I have acne (a little) and scarring (a lot), I’m always wary of getting cream blushes, as I can’t even afford to get drugstore blushes I won’t use. Does anyone have any input?

When you say accentuate, do you mean spotlight acne, or make it worse? I also have a little acne on my cheeks but because my skin is typically dry around my blemishes, powder blushes are the ones that tend to accentuate them more for me than creams. If you have oily skin, creams might not be for you since they are slick. By the way– most drugstores have a 100% money back policy on makeup, even after it’s used 🙂 I’ve returned a handful of drugstore items I wasn’t happy with, no problem.
