Review & Swatches: BA Star Holiday Red Lip Pencil

It takes a lot for a lip product to really WOW me. The last time I was swept away by a lippy was when I discovered Revlon Lip Butters (and then I proceeded to buy every shade I could afford). But alas, I think I’ve found a new favorite, at least for this holiday season!

BA STAR holiday red lip pencil

Powered by Brandbacker, I was recently given the opportunity to try out the Holiday Red Lip Pencil by BA Star. BA Star Makeup is a line geared towards dancers, cheerleaders and performers but also sells their makeup to the public at fair prices. As someone who grew up going to drama camp every summer and then joining show choir, I’m very fond of “stage” makeup. The goal for stage makeup is maximum pigment and maximum wear time, which is typically what I look for in my normal lip products, too!

Despite being geared towards performers, The BA Star Holiday Red Lip Pencil is a very wearable blue-based red that anybody could pull off, in or out of the spotlight. It applies completely opaque and dries almost entirely matte- there is only the slightest amount of shine.

The night before using the pencil, I had exfoliated my lips so it applied very smoothly. I was really surprised at how great my lips felt while wearing this lip pencil! Smooth and soft, they only started feeling a bit dry at the 5 hour mark. This pencil would also work fine to line your lips or use as a base for your lipgloss.

Oh yeah, by the way, the color lasts all day. ALL. DAY. I didn’t need to re-apply for about 8 hours, and even then only had to touch up near where my lips part. There was no feathering above or below my lips, which automatically makes this the best red lippy I have. I can’t stand feathering, but usually put up with it from my other lipsticks and glosses. I’m so glad I can now rock a beautiful red lip without worrying about where the color’s going to end up after a few hours and meals. This lip pencil does stain rather quickly after applying, so if you have a shaky hand I would opt for using a lip brush for more precise application.

The BA Star Holiday Red Lip Pencil sells on their website for $8.75 each. If you’re on a team, you can get large order discounts ($5/pencil if you order 6+). For the rest of us, use the code BBLIPS for 50% off your lip pencil!

Do you love rocking red lips around the holidays as much as I do? Pssh, who am I kidding? I love rocking red lips year round!

By the way, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! What are your plans for tonight? I hope everyone has an extremely fun and safe time!

I received this product through Brandbacker for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

      • Yep! Just like stage makeup for stage performers, certain makeup looks better under lights and has to be sweatproof, etc for dancers. A lot of times it will just be REALLY bright and really mask-looking because from far away in the seats that’s what looks normal, but the products I’ve tried from BA Star can double as regular every-day makeup just as well.
