Right after the first of the year, Rite Aid had some great sales that corresponded with the launches of highly anticipated new makeup collections. One being BOGO 40% Off all NYC Cosmetics, which prompted me to buy one of each of their new lip products: the Expert Last Lip Colors and the CityProof Twistable Intense Lip Colors. While the Twistable Intense Lip Colors left me wanting more, I’m over the moon about the Expert Last Lip Color I picked up in the shade Blue Rose.
I wanted to step out of my color comfort zone and get a bright color in preparation for spring. Blue Rose immediately caught my eye due to its strong, visible blue undertones. It almost looked like a duochrome in the store— it’s really unlike any other drugstore lipstick shade I’ve seen. I have a really hard time finding hot pink lippies that look good on me since most of them are warm-toned. I find that this cool fuchsia really compliments my skin, as well as making my teeth look extra bright!
Blue Rose contains tiny shimmer particles, and has a glossy sheen to it. The color payoff is great, and it doesn’t take much to build up to full opacity. Wear time was a whopping 6 hours for me without eating; note that it won’t last through a meal. I especially love that it doesn’t feather off of my lips.
The Expert Last Lip Colors replaced the Ultra Last Lipsticks, which NYC discontinued at the end of 2013. While I love this new formula and color selection, I think the packaging on the Ultra Last lipsticks were more attractive than these new tubes. The Expert Last tubes are thick and match the color of the lipstick shade itself. To me, they look like play makeup for kids. However, since I love the product itself, I won’t knock it too much for the packaging.
The NYC Expert Last Lip Colors retail for $1.99 in local drugstores. These are a hit from NYC in my book, providing us with another extremely affordable yet high-performing makeup product. I could see these quickly becoming a cult fave, like their Sunny bronzer.
