I have fallen down a rabbit hole of Random Color Makeup Challenge videos. In this YouTube beauty challenge, beauty vloggers randomly pick different shades of makeup and try to create one cohesive look. I think it’s such a fun way to force you out of your comfort zone and really test your creativity. But I definitely didn’t know what I was getting myself into.
I pulled some bright colors that I definitely wouldn’t have put together on my own. I definitely gravitate toward neutral looks with maybe one bold shade for a pop… but this was ALL pop. The products I chose were:
- Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Paprika
- Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Rainstorm
- Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Bright Tangerine
- Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Prehistoric Green
- Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Bermuda Sand
- NYX Ombre Blush in Feel the Heat
- NYX Luv Out Loud Cream Lipstick in Brave
Watch the video above to see the process of creating the look!
I decided to throw together a halo eye, using Rainstorm in my outer and inner corner with Bright Tangerine in the middle. I used the green shade as my lower lash liner and the two muted shades as my base/transition. I actually thought the look came out pretty cool… despite looking like two dragon eyes when I closed my own eyes, lol.
When I chose the NYX Ombre Blush in Feel the Heat, I was stoked because the orange tone actually matched the eyes. But… things took a turn when I chose a deep purple liquid lipstick. I think that really pushed this beyond the valley of wearable. I ended up feeling like a friend of Barney’s.
Either way, this was a fun challenge that I want to do more often, even on my own, just to come up with new look ideas and color combinations.
