What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of baking soda? Probably not skin care, am I right? I’ve seen it used in some bath time beauty DIYs, but never figured it would become a must-have in my beauty routine!

Baking soda is a natural cleanser and exfoliant, and we’re starting to see it pop up in skin care products more commonly. Turns out that it’s perfect for combination skin, which I have, because you get a deep clean and gentle exfoliation while leaving your skin touchably smooth.

The first official baking soda cleansers I’ve seen on the mass market so far are the Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub and the Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser. They’re the first ones bringing the trend to the drugstore, and so far I’m really liking what they do for my skin.

The new Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser is more of a traditional face wash in its liquid form, which lathers up nicely. You can feel small granules of baking soda that help exfoliate without the need for microbeads! The cleanser gives you a deep clean as it removes dirt and oil and leaves your feeling skin super soft.

The coolest new baking soda skin care product in my opinion, though, is the Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub. This stuff is so interesting! The scrub starts out as a concentrated powder, but is “activated” by water. Depending on how much water you use, the texture can lean more grainy or more foamy, so you can customize your exfoliation. You can feel the baking soda fizz as it foams up, and it continues to fizz as you start to rub it into the skin.

It feels tingly on my face as it gets super deep into the pores while exfoliating, and my skin felt so nice after rinsing. Being customizable in terms of how gentle you want the exfoliation, you can realistically use this daily. The best part was that my combo skin felt more balanced after one use, especially around my T-Zone. My pores were also less noticeable, which is something I always need help with around my nose and cheeks.

If you have combination skin, I totally suggest you check out baking soda cleansers like these from Bioré (which you can pick up at Target in the Complexion Care section of the skin care aisle) to help cleanse, exfoliate and even out your skin texture. If your skin is a little more on the oily side, no problem– their charcoal line of products would be a great fit.

Have you tried any skin care using baking soda?

My husband likes baking soda in toothpaste. I haven’t seen it in skincare before.

I just got these 2 products, in my Influenster box. I can’t wait to use them, I kinda tested the products out just on my hands. What I thought was great, I’ll see how they perform on my face. It was nice to hear someone else opinion on such a new product.

The Biore skin care line sounds great. I love that you don’t need microbeads to get the job done.

Interesting that a tried and true “old” ingredient from oral care is now a new ingredient in skincare!
