Makeup Declutter: Primers, Blushes, Contours & Highlights

I’m still in the process of slowly decluttering my makeup drawers— I have one Alex tower full of my makeup that’s “in rotation” that I try using regularly. Of course, it doesn’t take long for each drawer to get overloaded with the products that I try for review, and end up deeming awesome enough for my own routine.

I was dying to declutter one drawer in particular that had turned into a massive catch-all. Inside were primers, blushes, contours and highlights. At one point, it had been super tidy and easy to navigate. Some point in the last several months, though, I threw caution to the wind and just started tossing things everywhere with no mind to organization. Plus, I had been holding on to a ton of products that were either empty, seriously past the expiration date, or just didn’t work for me anymore.

Watch the video above to see the decluttering process and take a closer look at everything I kept. Keep reading to see what I trashed.

Click the product name below to be brought to my review (if I’ve done one). Otherwise it will lead to where you can find it online.

Primers

NAME – why it was trashed

ISH Face primer – This was empty, and it seems as though the brand doesn’t make it anymore!
e.l.f. Beauty Shield Skin Shielding Primer This was getting old, though I would totally purchase. It provides coverage, protection and hydration. Not the best for oily skin.
Covergirl Outlast All-Day Primer This was another empty. A good primer for combo skin.
IMAN Cosmetics Under Cover Agent Oil Control Primer – A good combo-oily skin primer with a lightweight gel consistency. Trashed because it was old.
Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer Super affordable and multi-tasking primer. Trashed because it was old.
NYX Hydra Touch Primer One of my favorite hydrating primers with a thin consistency. This was totally empty.
City Color Primer Oil I could only use this when my skin was extremely dry. It didn’t work very well with my favorite foundations.

Highlighters

Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls This had too much glitter in it for my taste.
ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter in Churro – They don’t make this shade anymore, and while it was gorgeous, it was too warm for my skin tone.
ColourPop x Hello Kitty Highlighter in School is Fun – This was limited edition, but much too yellow for my skin.
Jay Manuel 3D Illuminator in Fame I’m not as tan as I used to be, so this highlighter looks too dark on my skin now.
e.l.f. HD Highlighter in Bronzed Glow While I love this line of products, this particular shade is much too dark for me.
e.l.f. Prismatic Highlighting Duos in Siren’s Call and Blue Lagoon These are definitely novelty makeup products that I don’t find a use for in my every day routines.
Maybelline x Gigi Hadid Liquid Strobe in Gold Gorgeous, but too dark on me. Would look great on deep skin tones.
Bitzy Rainbow Highlighter This trend is over now, right?

Contours & Blushes

e.l.f. Hydrating Aqua Beauty Blush & Bronzer in Bronzed Pink Beige I love this formula, but I’ve had this compact way too long.
Revlon Powder Blush in Haute Pink I think this shade is discontinued, but either way it’s unflattering on me.
e.l.f. Bronzer Palette I find myself using the Contour palette more, so this one is pretty obsolete in my collection.
Rimmel Kate Sculpting Palette – This is an awesome drugstore find for traveling, but I’ve held on to this one way too long.
Physicians Formula Butter Blush in Plum Rose – This is a really weird shade that I can’t even find online to link. It’s like… beige.
City Color Blush Cream & Powder Duo in Peachy Nude This leans more brown than peach in my opinion, and the packaging is too big for my drawer to handle all three.

What was the last makeup you cleaned out or trashed?
