July 2015 Boxycharm Review

July 20, 2015

I was in for a surprise when I received the July 2015 Boxycharm in my mailbox this month. It’s black! So edgy and cool, but not sure what the deal is. Regardless, I was eager to open it and see what summer beauty goodies the subscription had in store for us.

July 2015 Boxycharm Review | Slashed Beauty

Maybe I’m biased from how many times I’ve been burned by other beauty subscriptions, but I’ve never been let down by Boxycharm. This month: no exception. I think what makes me like this box the most aside from the full sizes is that we’re always getting makeup, while other boxes tend to go heavy on the skin care which is pointless for me because my face is picky!

Watch the video below for my unboxing!

Product Breakdown:

1. MDMflow Greater Than Mascara (Full Size, $35)
This is the coolest looking mascara tube ever. It reminds me of the movie Holes where they talk about the gold tube of lipstick that belonged to Kissin’ Kate Barlow… except it’s mascara. Anyway, I won’t let myself get too infatuated by looks because the wand itself looks pretty standard. Looking forward to trying it and seeing more products come overseas from MDMflow.

2. Vasanti Professional Blush Brush (Full Size, $29)
This is a pretty brush that’s got super soft nylon bristles. It looks like it’s very slightly angled… sort of wish it were moreso but I will actually probably use this for powder application. Sometimes when my skin is feeling extra combo-y, I like using smaller brushes for powder so that I can target specific oily places without drying out the rest of my skin.

3. yourMinerals Transparent Veil Setting Powder (Full Size, $26)
I like this powder— it’s light, soft, and seems to mattify my skin without drying it out. It lets my foundation maintain the look of its skin finish, which is really nice. This will definitely be coming in handy with the insane heat we’re experiencing in Los Angeles. Bleeeeegh.

4. gorge I’ll make you look amazing daily spray (Full Size, $29.95)

I like leave in conditioning sprays like this because they tend not to weigh down your hair but give a nice boost of moisture and shine. This will be nice while trying to maintain some luster and softness in my hair after it’s been a few days after a wash.

5. OFRA Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil (Full Size, $13)
It’s funny how this is the least expensive thing in the box, but what I’m most excited about. Being that it is waterproof, I’m really hoping that this will withstand summer sweat and keep my brows looking ~on point~ throughout the season. I also like that it’s a cool toned taupe, which will mimic my brow hairs more naturally than warm toned products.

Another score for Boxycharm, full of products I can actually use. Check out Boxycharm on their website, it’s only $21/month and we got over $130 in product just this month!

OFRA is one of my faves and you definitely don’t hear enough about the brand. SO happy to see that it’s in this months BC!

I love OFRA! I have their universal waterproof eye brow gel and it’s one of my faves. I think when my Birchbox sub expires I’ll look into Boxycharm. Of all the subs, it seems the most interesting ATM. I’m going to be visiting LA for the first time this fall, and I need the name of your stylist, because I love, love your hair, and wish mine looked that good EVER, much less before 6am.

My stylist was a $15 cut at GREATCLIPS lol! I’ve been meaning to do a post like “I got a $15 haircut and it wasn’t the end of the world.” It was such a spur of the moment decision on the way home from work one day because I was hot and gross and just wanted a chop!

My box was white. Maybe they don’t like me!! I got a lipliner from Ofra in my box. I haven’t used anything yet but I did get an email that the mascara has to be primed about 20 times before using it the first time.

I really liked this month’s box. I really like the mascara. So far, I’m not allergic to it. Yay! I also like the brush and the setting powder. I haven’t tried the hair spray stuff yet. I like Ofra, so I was excited for the eyebrow pencil, but I hate it. It was so soft, it kept breaking. So I put it in the fridge. But when I tried to sharpen it, the cheap wood casing kept shredding. I wasted so much product. This was a fairly new Grindhouse sharpener, too. The pencil was so creamy it stuck to my eybrow hairs instead of the skin. I think it makes a much better eyeliner. I got a lipliner pencil from Ofra in a different subscription box, and it was too stiff, and had the same issues with sharpening. They need to swap formulas between the eyebrow pencil and lipliner. lol

I used the pencil for the first time today and I agree that it’s a bit too soft– I dulled it down flat in just one application :/ Next time I’m gonna try picking some of the product up on a brush and applying it that way.

I didn’t think of that. Great tip! Thank you.
