How to Use Wax Strips for the Best Results

Sponsored by Parissa. All opinions my own.

Wax strips get a bad rap. There’s a misconception that they’re second to liquid wax— but that’s probably because you’re using them wrong. While they are definitely the easy and mess-free method to hair removal, you still need to put in the right prep and aftercare to get the best results. Once you get it down, wax strips are the easiest method for totally smooth skin and hair removal that lasts.

If you don't love wax strips, you're probably using them wrong. Here are the best tips on how to use wax strips for the best results. | Slashed Beauty

Have the right products. The first key to getting the best results with body wax strips is having the right products to complete your routine. You’ll need something to help with exfoliating, wax strips of varying sizes depending on the areas you’re waxing, and an aftercare product like oil. Check out the Parissa Wax Strips Super Pack, which is only $25 and gives you everything you need to get started. It’s perfect for beginners, or waxing pros who need an easy way to grab all the essentials. I particularly like this brand because the wax strips are clear, so you can see what you’re doing.

Be Patient. Here’s the thing about waxing that I think messes a lot of people up: your hair needs to reach a certain stage to be wax-ready. Hair that’s just growing back is stubbly and resistant. You should wait at least two weeks before trying to wax, when your hair is between 1/2 cm and 1/4 inch long. On the flip side, you don’t want your hair to get too long and wax! Hair that’s too long when waxed runs the risk of getting pulled from the ends instead of the root, and may break off before being ripped out.

Never Skip the Prep Steps. Before trying a new product, always do a small patch test to make sure you don’t have any reactions to the wax. Unlike shaving in the shower, you actually do not want to bathe or clean the skin before waxing. Your natural oils act as a buffer between the wax and your skin. You also don’t want to use wax strips on irritated skin, or right before/after exercising. About a day or two before waxing, exfoliate using the included glove or a loofah. This helps get rid of dead skin cells and loosen stubborn hairs for the best results.

Follow Directions. Finally, you’re ready to wax. Take out the strip size that’s right for the part of the body you’re waxing. Warm it up by rubbing it between your hands— this will make the wax easier to adhere to your skin. Then, slowly separate them. Take on and press it onto the area you want to wax, pressing in the direction of hair growth. Next, rip it off in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Don’t forget the aftercare. After you’ve removed all undesired hair, use the included Azulene oil, which contains chamomile as a natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic to reduce ingrown hairs and redness. Reapply as necessary— this will also help remove any leftover wax residue.

Once 24 hours has passed since waxing, you can start regularly using the exfoliation glove to remove dead skin cells and reduce ingrown hairs.

So while wax strips are easy peasy, they still require some attention to detail. Once you get into the groove, they’re a great long-lasting solution to hair removal. Plus, they’re easy to take on-the-go for touchups, too!

I prefer to wax, but I haven’t tried these strips yet. I need to pick some up for when I am in a hurry and don’t have time for waiting on the wax warmer to melt everything!

After care is so key! I always use Blessure Serum™ for my after shave skin care. This stuff is great, smells good, keeps the skin healthy, no chemicals, and gives a glowing effect. I buy it on Ebay and I think it is sold at Walmart and a lot of places in France.

I prefer shaving to waxing. I just don’t want to have to wait for my hair to grow enough, and the stubble drives me crazy.

I’ll have to look into these. I used to wax my eyebrows at home all the time. It was so easy to do!

The first – and only – time I tried wax strips, I kept yelling “FIRE” each time I ripped off a strip! So much so that I had half a dozen people turn up asking me what was going on. It was way too painful, and I wish I had known all these tips then!
