Four Basic Ways to Flip Your Skin Care Routine for Fall

Now that fall has hit, and winter is around the corner, be sure you know these four basic ways to update your skin care routine! | Slashed Beauty

Even in the heart of Los Angeles, we’re finally starting to feel Fall settling in, which means it’s time to start switching up my skin care routine. Throughout the years, my skin’s needs have changed dramatically from season to season, so I’ve got to pay extra attention to it to keep it looking and feeling healthy.

If your skin is also feeling like it needs something a little more than you were giving it all through spring and summer, here are the first four ways to update your skin care routine for fall.

Now that fall has hit, and winter is around the corner, be sure you know these four basic ways to update your skin care routine! | Slashed Beauty

1. Gentle Cleansing

While foaming cleansers that get off errrything off may feel good during the sweaty summer, but you’re gonna need something that gets the dirt off without stripping your face of all its moisture. I’ve gone back to using the Simple Moisturizing Cleanser, which I spotlighted last year in my Winter Favorites, because it leaves me clean but balanced. If you feel like you need something a little extra, incorporate a sponge like the EcoTools Pure Complexion Facial Sponge to buff cleanser in and buff dirt, oil and dead skin off. Just add water and your favorite cleanser to get the most out of the sponge.

2. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Can I say it enough? Exfoliation should be #1 priority to helping the skin renewal process stay on track this season. We tend to take extra care of our faces, but don’t forget the rest of the body! One of my new fave ways to exfoliate is dry brushing. Using the EcoTools Dry Body Brush, I stroke the bristles against my dry skin in a circular motion moving upwards. Starting at my legs, I work all the way up through my mid-section to my arms. After jumping in the shower and rinsing off, I follow up with a body oil. On top of exfoliating, dry brushing also helps blood circulation, pore cleansing and can even reduce cellulite.

3. Richer Moisturizers

Your light summer facial lotion isn’t gonna cut it in the thick of fall with the winds and chill. This is specifically where I have to focus the most in switching up my routine. Start using richer moisturizers that will keep your skin smooth and hydrated despite the weather working against it. I’ve been using The Boots Botanics 100% Organic Facial Oil to do some heavy duty damage control with my dry patches. The omega oils from the reship are great at keeping skin looking healthy.

4. Spot Treat

As someone with combination skin, there are often times when I need a lot of moisture in just a few small areas. In this case, I spot treat with La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Soothing Multi-Purpose Balm. It’s meant for dry skin irritations and rough patches and can be applied to both the body and face. I like using it when I have small eczema flare ups and need relief from both itchiness and flaky skin.

What do you switch up in your routine with the season’s change?

I really should change up my routine, but I pretty much keep the same thing going year round. I’m not sure what I would change… maybe just switch up my moisturizers.

I’ve started using more intense moisturizers but I’m saving the heavy duty stuff for winter when I need it desperately/

Here, the temps are dropping fast and the humidity is bottoming out. Time to ramp up the exfoliation and slather on ever more moisture!

The weather doesn’t change that much in Florida, either, but I do tend to gravitate towards the shea body butters this time of year. I love how they stick around just a little longer and make my skin feel so soft.

I don’t change my face routine, but I definitely need to moisturize my body more in the colder months. My hands and feet especially get so dry, and I have to ward off eczema breakouts.

My hands get extra dry too! I’m a compulsive hand washer so I use a ton of hand cream during the day to keep them from cracking!

I’ll have to try that balm out… my daughter has bad eczema so generally she has to use something prescription… but my son gets just patches and sometimes I do too… it could work!

I’ve switched cleansers and nighttime moisturizers so far. And once it gets even colder, I’ll switch again!
