If you follow me on Snapchat (and if you dont… @slashedbeauty… just sayin’), then you know I’ve been working from home full time for about a month now. I have loved every minute of it— I’m one of those people who work better alone vs. with other people around. But, since there are some days where I don’t even leave my apartment, I have very little motivation to get dressed… much less do my makeup .
What’s interesting, though, is that I’ve discovered doing my makeup in the morning sort of gets my day going. It’s the ritual that lets my brain know that I’ve got stuff to do today. It also gives me a reason not to take a nap during my self-imposed “lunch break,” and to actually go out into the sunlight and interact with real humans.
Now, let’s not get carried away here, I’m not going to go 100% glam on a typical day, but I have been doing a simple fresh face for spring lately to help me feel awake and on point. This is also about as close to a “no-makeup” makeup look as I get if I’m putting on makeup at all.
The fresh face makeup look has been incredibly trendy over the past couple years, and I love it for all its versatility. It’s polished enough to wear to work, bright enough for a day out with friends, and casual enough for hanging out on a lazy Sunday.
The best part about going for a fresh face look is that it takes all of five minutes to master. Here’s how I do it:
Foundation // I use the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation, which gives me amazing coverage while still feeling and looking lightweight.
Brows // I’ll keep the brows on the softer side, but best believe I’m going to fill them in with the e.l.f. Lock On Brow Cream for all day wear.
Eyes // I tightline the upper waterline to give my eyes a little definition with the Sleek MakeUP Eau La La Liner in Noir, curl my lashes and top them off with the No 7 Exceptional Definition Mascara to make my eyes look wide and awake.
Contour // I’ve been using a lot of cream contours lately, because they tend to look more natural on the skin. This time around, I applied the Physicians Formula Super BB #InstaReady Contour Trio in Bronze, focusing the darkest shade under my cheekbones and blending out with my fingers.
Blush & Highlight // I added a light flush of color to my cheeks with the matte coral shade from the Sleek MakeUP Blush By 3 Palette in Lace. I typically show off my glow when I do more natural makeup looks, so I didn’t skimp on highlight. I used the shade Renaissance Gold from the Sleek MakeUP Precious Metals Highlighting Palette for a beautiful champagne sheen.
Lips // With such a fresh face, you can afford to rock literally any shade of lipstick and let it be the statement. But for spring, I’m sticking to lighter colors and popped on the new Sleek MakeUp Lip VIP in Private Booth. A pretty blush pink that ties the look together.
… Can you tell I’ve been on a Sleek kick lately? 🙂
I’m wearing the fresh face look practically every day now unless I’ve got something special going on. I think it helps me embrace more of my natural features while still making me feel dolled up. Plus, it’s so quick, that even on busy mornings I can crank this one out and be out the door in a flash.
