Ever since its release, the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter has had a hard time staying on shelves.
Rumored to be a dupe of the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter, this multi-purpose product helps add a gorgeous glow to your look in several different ways, streamlining your routine and simplifying your makeup collection.
For $14, you get over 1oz of glowy goodness that’s available in eight shades. I wear shade 3, Light/Medium.
The Halo Glow Liquid Filter can be used for various purposes: over your bare skin as a tinted moisturizer, under foundation as a brightener, or on top of makeup as a liquid highlight. I’m so glad the bottle holds a generous amount of product, because I’ve found myself using it in multiple ways throughout my routine.
To apply, use the oversized doe foot applicator to dot or swipe it on. The applicator has an indentation to hold ample amount of product so you’re not triple dipping into the bottle. I use a sponge to blend it out, though you could also use your clean fingers.
The Halo Glow Liquid Filter definitely has a detectable pigment to it, which is why the shade you choose matters. When blended over your bare skin, it adds the slightest tint of color, but not a lot of coverage. Mostly, you’ll end up with a blurred and radiant effect.
For no-makeup makeup looks, I’ll use this paired with a bit of concealer for any dark spots or acne. Overall, it makes my face look more bouncy and fresh. This can definitely take the place of a tinted moisturizer if you don’t mind the sheer appearance, as it also contains Squalane to moisturize and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, along with finely milled powders to help blur lines and pores.
My favorite way to use the Halo Glow Liquid Filter, though, is under my foundation. After priming, I blend a thin layer all over my face, then top it with foundation. The result is more radiance, more dimension, and a brighter appearance. You can see the difference above, where I used the Halo Glow Liquid Filter on the left side only. You can particularly see a difference on the forehead, in the under eye area, and on my cheek bones. This also means I don’t have to use as much concealer in certain areas!
Finally, I’ve also been wearing this on top of my makeup as a liquid highlight when I’m going for more of a natural look and want to stay away from shimmer. It looks naturally dewy (but not greasy).

I don’t find that this affects my foundation shade, or the wear time. However, with thinner foundations, it may be a good idea to mix in the Halo Glow Liquid Filter instead of layering for a better blend.
The e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter has infiltrated my routine in so many ways, and has quickly become a staple in my collection. The hype is real. It’s especially nice for my travel beauty bag as combines three products in one, and would be great for a minimal makeup collection. The only downside is that it’s been hard to track down… so if you see it in stores, grab it ASAP!
