e.l.f. Mineral Pearls in “Natural” Review

They’re pretty to look at, but are they practical? The e.l.f. Mineral Pearls are beauty for sure, with two versions to help finish your look: “Natural” for a natural glow and “Skin Balancing” to help color correct. Packaged with a powder puff, all you have to do is dab into the pearls and onto your skin for what the brand describes as a “glistening sheer wash of color.”

I’ve been using the “Natural” pearls as a finishing powder in my makeup routine for the past couple weeks. I had been very curious about these after all the hype… and comparison to the Guerlain Meteorites.

The Mineral Pearls come with a powder puff for application, which I press and roll into the pearls to pick up product. I find this to actually be a little more convenient with a brush. For one, I feel pressing onto the pearls picks up more pigment, while you only get a dusting at a time with a brush. Also, swirling a brush into the container tends to send some of the pearls flying out of the pot.

The “Natural” pot comes with rosy pearls, beige pearls, taupe pearls, white pearls and mauve pearls but blend together to a nearly translucent beige shade. They weren’t kidding when they said sheer… but I do see that my skin tone looks slightly more even after application while my makeup looks smooth and mattified.

Again, these pearls do tend to lean rosy so if you manage to pick up enough pigment for it to actually give off color onto the skin, it will be a pink beige (something to consider if you have a cool/neutral undertone).

As a setting powder, this helps lock in my makeup with a very light mattifying effect that looks far from dry or dull. If you’re super oily, you might need something stronger, but for dry/normal skin, this is perfect to use as your finishing touch without losing your natural glow.

Speaking of glow, the white pearl shades do contain shimmer, so you end up having small and subtle shimmer wherever applied. The particles are small enough that they give off an illuminating effect without looking like kid glitter. Since I’m not a big shimmer person in face products, I actually really appreciated how subtle the effect was. It’s definitely not a highlight powder, just gives you a nice radiant skin pick-me-up.

The e.l.f. Mineral Pearls are $8 and can only be found on the brand’s website.

Have you tried either these or their high-end counterparts?

I like the Skin Balancing pearls. This version was too dark for me.

Good review! I’ve also been fascinated with the Guerlain Meteorites ~ forever. So when Elf came out with a similar product I was intriqued, but haven’t made the purchase. Glad to know that it’s a light powder ( and not sparkly )
